Sound Tribe Sector 9 is the most prolific band since rush musically
    #16449353 - 06/28/12 04:14 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

Sector 9 has gone through a lot of transformations from their loose acid jams of 2000-2002 to their classical jams of 04 to their bringing in electronic influences in 05/06 to where they are today.  Some of their shit sucks today but their arrangement and general music writing is unparalleled.  They just have so much "feel."  Even though some of their new songs blow, their sound design is soooooooooo beyond most of the djs out there, I laugh at them.  STS9 for life.  :aweoverdose:  Show me another band who can throw down GLOgli, Baraka, Circus, Breathe In, Jebez, ...And Some Are Angels, Kaya, Today, R+E, Squares and Cubes, Peoples, 986 ft trees, Music Us, Tap In.  Jesus, I could go on and on.  Cheers to the bosses, the untouchables.

Allow me to supplement with a video.  BY NO MEANS the best material sound tribe has played but gotta deal with video availability and all that.  Still, dank as fuck.

Except I hate murph playing with a pick.  What a terrible tone.  Anyways, yeah.

I don't remember him being that loud, so maybe it's just the video, but I think that's what makes it so bad.

Yeah, the harsh attack of the pick just ruins his bass flows for that ~1.5 years he was playing with a pick.  Thankfully that's the worst years of the band ever so... no loss there.  Plus he's turned up way too loud in that vid.  Not too sure what's up with that.

I don't think STS9 is the greatest shit in the world, but I do enjoy them. I really love the acoustic version of Equinox.

Perhaps :datass:  I have a love hate relationship with tribe so I can see what's up.  I can't see youtube at my place though due to my interwebz so I'll have to view the vids elsewhere.

IMO they're pretty boring.
I used to like them a lot around the time you mentioned 2000-2002.
Wore out my copy of Seasons 01, even tripped a time or 2 listening to it and completely blissed out.. loved it.
Then I saw them live in 2004 and didn't really like it.
I wasn't on drugs though just a lil buzzed so I dunno.
Saw them again in 2006 and it was a lil bit better.
And then again like a year later and it sucked balls.
Becomes much more interesting on psychs I'm sure. (which I was not on for any of these shows)
Sometimes it's just a meandering noodle-fest that goes nowhere, almost better as a soundtrack score.
With all these macbook tools, and samples and loops and things being patchwooked into their music "tapestry" it just sounds all tinker tonker and boring to me.
Honestly I think their music iis kind of stagnant, not prolific.
