A New, New Zealand Psilocybe. * 1
    #16423706 - 06/23/12 12:59 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Hey everyone,
While out looking for P. Aucklandii today I came across these small specimens. I know that they are not Aucklandii. They match the Psilocybe profile and I am not sure if they are just different looking Subaeruginosa or P.aureoalbescens, or something new entirely.
Any help would be greatly appreciated guys

Habitat:
On small pieces of wood underneath pinus radiata trees. Auckland, NZ.

Bruising:
Blue

Thanks for the help guys
I was also thinking that it might be P.aureoalbescens (P.inski). It looks similar to the other specimens of these I've found but the habitat is all that put me off. It was weird to find these small guys in a pine predominant eviroment all by themselves.

It's not P. "aureoalbescens", here are two images of that species which belongs in section Aztecorum.

Your specimens look like they most likely belong in section Semilanceatae, it's similar to P. caerulipes.
I'd like to examine these a bit closer, were they growing from conifer debris?

They were all growing in a pinus radiata plantation, so that was the only substantial wood present (sorry, I'm not good with wood).
I still have the chunk of wood with the pins on it, and a few of the older specimens I found. I'm trying to get a print now.
Have you ever seen anything like this in NZ before?

holy shit Sumo!!! YOU GONE AND DONE IT NOW!!!!

very exciting :congrats:

the way i print tiny psilocybes like liberty caps and pelliculosa is print them somewhere cool so they dont rot, like in the fridge. leave it for 24 hours at least, and even take a wet q tip and gently wet the cap down every now and then if it looks like its drying out.

If anyone is interested, I have sent the spores off for micro-analysis and am looking foward to any info they yield.
Also, one of the wood pieces I have of this species appears to be pinning again which is cool, im keeping it on wet cardboard with my subaeruginosa mycelium.

Nah I haven't gone for more yet the place is quite a ways away and I can't actually drive, hehe.
Did you see the section Stuntzae specimens I found on the same day that I found these? They are on the NZ season thread.
That was a good day
