Blotchy Caps...<Pic>
    #1642140 - 06/18/03 11:31 AM (20 years, 9 months ago)

Is this a contam, or a humidity issue? I?ve seen it before but can?t find the post. If it is a contam. does it rule out taking prints/consumption etc.

Any ID?

It looks like bacterial blotch on the caps, so yes that's contamination.
Don't make any print from them. Regarding consumption it's up to you, don't even try the aborts with that problem, grown fruitbodies with only small blotches are ok but you should cut and discard the cap.
It's your call.

A clearer pic to help others identify this bacterial blotch:

Feel free to add this to the contam guide.

They don't look so bad.
A few months ago I had a similar problem (mine looked worse though I had no digicam then) and asked if it was okay to chuck the caps and keep the stems.
Answers were "if in doubt throw it out".
Never being one to listen to good advice I proceeded (pretty bull ignorant, but typical of my origins...lol) to chuck out the caps and keep the stems.
Well, lets put it this way, I'm not dead, and don't remember any particular discomfort taking them.
Having said that, maybe I was lucky (luck of the irish?).

P.S. Your perlite looks to have a bit too much water in it..... perhaps it's just the pic though.

could they be drops of moisture that fell from the lid? (prob not if they're 'permanent')

Hard to tell, i've seen something similar when some petroleum products were used in the process or even using lysol.
My doubt is, you got a couple of heavy damaged caps. I think i see some rotting (small circles) in some affected areas. I'm i right ? It could be the pic.

Yes you're right, there were one or two that had rotted quite considerably. They were quite small though and didn't get very far.
