I was just listening to a speach from Ralph Nader (if anyone's interested it was part of a one hour "Democracy Now!" program that can be watched here (then click on "Watch 56k stream"). It was Nader's first major address on the Israeli/Palestine conflict.
In it, he said "It is a severe criticism of our policy that our government has never allied itself with the very, very sizable peace movement in Israel.? Instead we support Ariel Sharon and his oppressive policies. He also mentioned that some Israeli soldiers are now refusing to serve in the occupied territories because this serves no defensive function; it simply serves to oppress and control the Palestinian people. Although every one of these soldiers has pledged to continue serving the Israel Defense Forces in any other function that serves Israel, Sharon is imprisoning them.
Nader gave the link to a website http://www.seruv.org/defaulteng.asp which lists all of the soldiers that are refusing to serve in the occupied territories, along with their pictures and stories (for those that chose to post them). If you believe in what they are doing, you can sign a civil support petition on that website showing your support. Right now, over 16,000 people from around the world have signed it (mostly from Israel). It would great to show that there are some Americans also in favor of peace!
Edit: 60 minutes already did a special on this which you can watch here (13 minutes).
