I've never used one -- I don't even have a waterbed, but I remember seeing many posts of people who do the same thing.

As far as I know it's alright. *shrug*

Bad idea, major fire hazard. As a fire fighter I have seen these things catch a waterbed on fire. Without the matress on top the danger increases even more.

If you want to use a heat source I suggest a heating pad (like the kind used for sore muscles) but watch it closly. depending on what you keep the thermostat set on in your home you probally wont need it though. Keep them in a cabinet above some sort of an appliance (I put mine above the fridge but watch things like stoves when cooking they may get to hot) I srongly believe tempreture fluxuations help germination (this is just an opinion though )
