SHOULD MY COLONIZING MONOTUB LOOK THIS WAY? (PIC)

I used 650 grams of cocoa brick, 2 quarts of verm, 4 quarts of spawn and some coffee grinds. I did this for two seperate 18 gallon monotubs on saturday. This is the second time I did two tubs (I now have 4). My experienced friend (who is teaching me) called me to say he peaked at the monotubs and it's looking good. I found this strange because it's only into day 4 of 10. I came home and took a look and found that it doesn't really look right. It looks different than the first two monotubs (that my friend did and I watched/assisted, as opposed to these that I did myself), as well as a pictorial (life of a monotub) that I found on here. It looks like marshmallows. I broke up the bird seeds very, very well and mixed the substrate as much as possible. I think some people have a thick layer of cocoa/verm, put a layer of spawn then put a top layer of cocoa/verm and don't mix it the way I did. Does anyone have any input?

(It's also worth mentioning that the two monotubs look IDENTICAL even though I created the substrates with unique batches of ingrediants, as well as different times throughout the day (not both tubs of substrate at once))

looks like a normally colonizing bulk substrate.
here's one of mine at a similar stage.

oh! okay, look at that; looks the same. i don't know why, but when i otherwise see the surface slowly consumed by somewhat of a spider web looking colonization, it seems more natural. the past monotubs looked like a brown rice cake colonizing.
but very good! thanks for the picture. i feel more confident now.

A colonizing monotub benefits from high co2. Don't open your tub until you're ready to fruit. If your entire tub is opaque, you could modify your lid with either syran wrap or plexi glass.
Introducing FAE at this stage could trigger premature pinning, which you do not want.
To answer your original question, your tub looks good.

I cut the lid and replaced the top center with a clear trash bag, keeping a black trash bag over it for the first 10 days. I would have left it alone, but I found it strange that my friend said "it was doing good". It will be left alone until day #10.
Thanks for you help!

Hi,
I'm curious what strain you are growing and what temperatures are you storing your monotub at?

85f is way too hot. Don't get it get about 80f for colonizing, and not above 76f for fruiting.
South American is a beast strain.

Is there a different strain worth trying that is unique, as far as the look of the mushrooms and perhaps the trip? I'm using south American because I knew it was easy, but I am more experienced now and want to try something that will make different looking mushrooms. Any suggestions?

No p. cubensis strain is any easier or harder to grow than the other. Look into the albino strains, penis envy, and APE(albino penis envy) if you want a more unique looking strain.

No bro grow ATL #7 there the best about 3 times stronger then cubensis and if u just leave it as mycellium for about 6 to 7 months u get pylosifers stones. The fruit before the fruit.
