Ipod vs. kindle vs. storage

so, i'm facing the reality of another failing laptop and was about to swear off computers/laptops and make a few backups of all my audio cds. but the ipod touch (ewww, apple) and kindle fire have caught my attention. the only thing stopping me from purchasing either of these is the storage capacity. as far as i can tell, ipod touch is only sod at 80gb, the classic ipod at 160gb, and the kindle fire at 8gb. the companies don't seem to offer an upgraded hard drive size.
why is this? are the constantly evolving generations of ipods also growing in size (pretty much unaware of ipod's history, as i hated the functionality of the first couple models released)? what about kindles? considering it's relatively new on the market, they range from 2-8gb.
supposedly you can store movies/music on the "cloud." the idea, though, is to use it for portability as well, which would require a few hundred gbs for all my cds
are they expanding the storage capacity of these devices? has either company mentioned a 500gb or terabyte ipod/mobile reader in press releases?
even archos, who was ahead of apple with hard-drive based portable media, has capped out at a couple hundred gigs of storage (although their non-internet device does have SD card storage capability)

Basically they don't offer you a way to change memory or card slot because they want you to run out of space and buy a new one.
I don't really understand, you just need to backup your music or you want a music player?
You can pretty much always recover files from your harddrive if it isn't dead. If you have stuff you can't afford to loose you could get 2 hardrives for a mirror raid 1 array, or just have an extra for backup. You gotta have a computer to put music on a mp3 player though.
If you rip your collection I would go with flac, Its 99% lossless and around 300mb a cd. If you go with mp3 it wont sound as good but its only around 100mb a cd. Most mp3 players don't support flac, some support WAV, I never used it though because that takes allot of space on a small mp3.
The ipod touch is pretty neat, the biggest one is 64gb flash and since its apple the price difference for bigger sizes is ridiculous. I don't see how 16gb vs 64gb could make it cost 200 extra dollars but it does with apple. I also don't like the file system on it, its nearly impossible to rip music off of it and if you did it wouldn't even be taged right... most of them arn't just like a flash drive anyways, you can't just drag and drop music.
I wouldn't even consider the kindle for music, its an ebook reader. oh nvm, Just saw thats like a tablet, Check out the Creative Ziio for $100, it has an sd card slot.
I like the creative zen players because they also take sd cards.
But if you really need to carry around that much music I would go with an ipod classic or the bigger Zune. I'm not really familiar with all the players but apple does seam to look the nicest. Maybe theres a good android alternative.

ideally, i'm looking for a portable media device to store and play all my music (be it at home, in the car, through headphones, etc...), that preferably also has internet capability (not necessary, but ideal, especially considering how little it costs as a feature). i may be again in areas that have little to no wi-fi access, so the "cloud" aspect of the kindle fire isn't all that great.
i have at least 200gb music, mostly in mp3. i would need 10x the space to be in wav or flac.
most everything i have is backed up already on an external
i will look into those two companies' recent models. the sd card slot isn't ideal, cause it would require many chips, but i'd be willing to go that route if it meant having everything i'm looking for
thanks for the input
