What is the best Strain for a beginner??
    #1640580 - 06/17/03 09:54 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

I ready to buy my first spores and I'm wondering what is the Strain for a beginner. Im not looking for the most potent (but that would be nice), Im looking for easy to grow. I will be using Brown Rice Cakes in 1/2 pint jars. Have my Incubator stable at 80deg and my Terrarium at 72deg at 97% Humidity with Perlite and a fish air pump. So everything is set and ready to go just need advice on a strain plz...

Thanks all

DG

Everyone will give you different answers. Some good ones are Mazatapec, B+ and Golden Teacher.

Cubensis performed pretty much the same for me regardless of sub-strain.  Variations in fruit body size and potency by weight were key differences I noticed in the different strains, but as far as cultivation goes, stick with any cubensis strain and you should be fine.

Koh Samui and PES Hawaiians grew very well for me and seemed to give me better quantities per flush (both from cakes and casings)...but that could have just been me getting better at my casing technique.

Happy gardening.

Hey bro, my friend has had such success with this cambo strain he has, it's just amazing. He's a total noobie, yet he manages to do all right. The strain is so forgiving and treats him so well too! Many strong flushes with lots of pins with fat stems, even on regular 1/2 pint cakes. My friend ahs tried a few strains already but cambo is his fav.

I got Golden Teachers my first grow. I liked them a lot. Good visuals and very fast colonizers.

I'm growin creepers, plantasia, and Alan Strain... I think Alan strain is Golden Teacher. They look the same but idk.

I just ordered my first spores too. I got Puerto Rican because I heard they were fairly potent (may be a myth...we'll see!), Koh Samui and Hawaiians. I can't wait to see if I can tell the differences between the strains.

just my opinion, but i ordered B plus and got a south african syringe for free. i got them both started at the same time with the same conditions and it seems to me the south african has been colonizing faster with a heavier, thicker mycelium than the B plus.

Now there's a topic of hot debate. I actually posted a question about this a while ago, and got some interesting opinions from some very experienced shroomers. Check it here if you're interested!

what he said. ^

B+ and Ecuador are both hearty, forgiving strains that pin abundantly.

Id say the allen is among one of the best. 2 quarts both colonized in 10 days from innoc. on popcorn. Biggest fruit was 12 inches

B+ is my favorite!
It truly thrives to spread its seed, which by the way its a very heavy spore depositor. Not only does it grow easily indoors,it has been seen the B+ fruit outdoors several times in a wide range of temps and substrates. Several times one winter, night time low of 45F, day high of 60F, the B+ just flourished. Spring/summer, low of 75F, high of 90F, the B+ once again fruited beautifully. It has been seen to grow on alder wood, compost, straw, dung, rice, and it especially loves bird/finch seed.I heard so many good reports back from growers all around that they just love this mushroom and how easy it grows, and how beautiful it is, its loved by many.

Although the B+ is not a super fast colonizer, its speed is average, producing some very large mushrooms that are generally a caramel color. Grown in cooler temperatures, it usually always produces a very beautiful color caramel cap and stems. The stems are generally very thick, and it produces some large caps. It also drops a very thick veil. Grown in warmer temps, its color changes to a more golden color at times.

Thai ks is the best for a complete beginer. It is potent and fruits quickly without any effort.

I've heard nothing but good things for South African. It's supposed to be very resistant to contams, and an aggressive colonizer.

Ironic that the South African would be an agressive conlonizer, huh?
