Very nice work. Looking forward to seeing more outcomes from your research!
I just had my first pin come up from one of my woodchip tubs. ONly started this tub with a handful of colonised chips at the end of Jan. So it didnt take very long to colonise and fruit.
I'm in WA but the starter chips i got were from a crazy fast Melbourne patch. I hopt to spread these far and wide.

Congrats on your pin, it's exciting hey. What flavour is your wood chips in the tub the pin is in? Dyou have a thread going you can post a link to? How exciting!!. Take it your not in the city then? not cold enough temps? whatdyou reckon? and Melbourne myc at that....... wicked man!!

The weather round these parts has been perfect for P. subaeruginosa. Below 10c at night and cold.
Up until a few days ago we've had no rain for a few weeks, I have been watering the tubs and beds each evening, simulating daily light showers. I have missed a day or two. The water is strait from the garden hose.
Rained for a day, 2 days ago so the weather is a bit warmer but still cold at night.
My pics are still a bit crappy , got a new pic taker, I'll learn how to use it and they will be better soon. It's sad posting crap pics
It's nice and wet in the sub nursery
Theres is a fair bit of action going on in the crushed pine cones and soil tub.
A pine shavings tub has started to pin.

I roughed up half of the surface of this tub a few weeks ago to see if disturbance played any role in fruiting, the other half I cased in deciduous leaves
The half that I roughed up has the pins.
In the mixed tub with the plantain
This one is real tiny, round the other side of the tub

and some more pins as well

The fruits in this tub are smaller than the fruits in the tub with the pine cones.
Been hunting in the strawberry patch.........
Was unsure how this bed was going as I had purposely never checked its progress as I wanted a surprise..... I have been watering this bed along with the other beds that have no pins as of yet.
These tubs are in another green house.
I have been a bit rougher with these tubs and have tried different casings and substrates.
This tub is a mixture of soil, pine shavings and cardboard. I cased this tub with coir a few weeks ago.

This tub is a mixture of, cardboard, Ply wood (pine), soil and coir.
3 weeks ago I completely turned and tossed this tubs contents about as a test to see if a lot of disturbance played any part in fruiting and quantity. I did this as the tub that I fruited last year was disturbed a few weeks before fruiting.
All but 1 of the tubs to fruit thus far are pine based, there is lotsa myc action in the hardwood tubs but no pins that I can see as yet.
Of the tubs that are fruiting in the second greenhouse - the 1 that is pinning most prolifically has had the roughest treatment. - Both the pinning tubs were cased with coir.
Of the 5 tubs that have pins or fruits 3 were 'disturbed' a few weeks ago
The strawberry bed was inoculated with 2 myc taco's last November. Upon investigation there is a large patch of myc under the dead strawberry leaves. .............and more pins
I am really happy with whats popped up so far.
Much, much information for future endeavours

Its action all the way now in quite a few of the tubs that I have going.
This tub is 2 years old. One of the three left from last year. Over the year the mycelium has colonized most of this tub. It is a mixture of Redgum woodchips, potting mix. cardboard and a coir door mat. A third of the tub is cased with leaves. The fruits in this tub are small, 1 harvested so far, 2 pins that are left are developing nicely, all fruits are in the coir mat area.
The crushed pinecone and soil tub. Harvested 4 so far. The fruits are an average size for subaeruginosa. Slug damage persists in this tub, lifted a few of the cones and there a slugs living in the cavities. Whilst investigating I observed a lot more pins and primordia so I ceased disturbance so as no to fuck things up. The slugs and shrooms will have to live in harmony in this tub.
The pine chips and potting mix tub.

By far the most successful thus far. The combo of soil and pine is a winner, theres already heaps of proof that this is the case, ofcourse. I had to see for myself as where I have success in hunting these babies in the wild is predomantly ecalyptus forrest. The fruiting half of this tub I disturbed about a month ago. The other half I cased with leaves. There seems to be 2 different pin sets in this tub, ones that are forming on the surface and ones that are erupting from the side of the tub.
Theres another tub that is entirely pine chips without the soil and it is yet to produce a pin.
The plantain tub. Small fruits continue to be harvested from this tub, 5 so far. More pins are forming, some directly on the cardboard that is exposed on the surface.

This tub contains chunks of pine. I didn’t disturb this tub, only cased it half in leaves. It has it’s first pin. The pin is growing directly from a piece of the pine.
The strawberry patch…….. Has a number of pins now.

The foam tub contains pine, soil, cardboard and coir.
This tub rivals the pine and potting mix tub. The mixture of Ply wood, cardboard and potting mix has worked well. Had to put up a baffel to prevent the wind from drying out the pins, noticed that there was an issue when the colour of the caps begun to darken. Don’t know if I would eat these though as the ply sheets are glued together to make the sheet of wood. Wether the mycelium has absorbed the toxins etc……

Have been maintaining the hydration vigil, daily waterings…….. Last season there were many aborts, this year as I am watering them daily the abort rate has decreased to almost 0.
I will be away from them for 7 days……….. We will see what happens whilst I am absent. Unless it rains the lack of moisture may contribute to their doom. These current flushes may be it…… Lets hope not. All precautions will be taken, snail baits, security etc………

Glad your enjoying their progress HP. They are a luvly fungus

Had a good look in the strawberry bed today and was surprised to find more pins than I thought. They are growing in a pine chip and soil mix.

More pins are appearing daily in the foam tub. Similar to the Pine and soil tub that is fruiting so well, the foam tubs pins feature mostly on the edges of the tub, like the mycelium has hit the edge and then fruits as it has no where to go?

Have been wondering why this makeshift tub hasn’t had a pin yet.
It’s mostly pine based.
Upon closer inspection this morning I saw these guys.
Then this
Which then intrigued me to ‘open' the sides of the tub. This revealed numerous pins and mushrooms. Since these pics I have repaired the tub in such a way as to allow the pins to form without being squashed and to keep the moisture level up. The mesh cage is acting like a basket.

So much is happening now................

I love watching the progress of the pine tub. It seems they subs favour the edges of the tub. Great work dude! I am definitely going to be taking notes and attempting this.

Went away for a week. Took this first lot of pics the day I left...........8 days ago
Strawberry Patch

Coir mat mix tub

Crushed Pinecones

Tub with the Plantain growing in it

Pine, Coir tub

Pine and mix, cage with the sides open
Cardboard, Plywood and Coir tub

Pine chips and Cardboard tub
and the dynamic..........Pine chips tub
This is how it looks from the side

The first harvest

8 days later............... Though it had rained twice since I was away. it was fairly cold and dry around. Tubs and beds were watered promptly on my return
Pine chips tub
Crushed Pinecones
Coir mat mix tub
Plantain tub
Strawberry patch

Pine, Coir tub

Pine mix 'cage' with the sides open
o
Pine chips and Cardboard
Plywood, Cardboard and Coir
Tubs that fruited whilst I was away......
Local Pine Bark chunks (from down the road)

Pine Bark Chunks (from B/town)

The outdoor beds are yet to show any signs of fruiting......... Went for a dig in this one and found no signs of subaeruginosa mycelium. I did find another fungi's myc though.

Nothing in this one.......
Nothing in the pine vs red gum beds....... except this fungi

Harvest number 2

It's back to daily waterings in the hope we can get some more flushes whilst the cold weather continues
