gray mycelium???
    #1639666 - 06/17/03 02:51 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Ok, so a person I know has some jars that were innoculated, under sterile conditions, with Brasilian strain. 4 days later, the jars are roughly....40 to 50% colonized, but the mycelium, in all of the jars inncoulated with this strain, is gray. Otherwise it has all the characteristics of healthy mycelium. This friend of mine is thinking it was just very thin growth, and as it thickens it'll turn white, but he still isnt sure...any ideas?

Also, these jars are normal, BRF/Vermic jars, done PF Tek, if that helps

Well, I just recently aquired a Digital camera, so I can see about getting some pictures, but Im thinking that may be uneccesary, becuase since I posted that its seemd to be getting whiter, thickening up.
And as far as the speedy colonization, that may be due to something we've been playing with for air exchange...there are 3 B+ jars, prepared and innoculated the same day, under the same conditions, that are now around 30-40%, which is very suprising, becuase in my experience B+ is a slow colonizer. And they are looking VERY healthy...I'll have a grow log up for them soon...
Thanks for the words of wisdom though--Dan

50% in 4 days sounds suspicious.

If its a mycelium syringe, you might be good. If it's spores, you got cobweb :frown: it takes spores like 4 days to just germinate and form spots.

I have seen cobweb take over a jar in 2 days... I would have to concur with psilo9com, that sounds suspicious...

I've seen other people achieve 100% colonization in 10 or 12 days. I don't know if this is the case, just to let you know it can happen if you hit all the right parameters for that strain.

I don't know how many times my FOAF has seen what appears to be cobweb turn into healthy myc after a day or two with at least one strain. Don't freak out too bad and give it time.
