Rye Jar 90% Colonized... Contams or metabolites? or what?!

The lighting was kinda dark inside for these shots, making the white mycelium kinda grey. not what it looks like...

Macro Super Up-close shot

This pint Jar of rye is almost 100% after about 2 weeks from MS syringe. The other jar noc'd at the same time is about 60%.
This jar is very healthy and has been colonizing alot everyday! however, ive noticed these spots, they are dark, but it is almost as if it is the Rye Grain pressed against the glass making it look spotty...
are these spots normal, like old metabolites or something? I have NOT shaken my jars yet... something I should do now to make sure they are healthy?
Some input would be great. I have searched alot, and most of what comes up is black mold spores. I have had black mold dots in other jars and i feel like this is not it.. i hope!!!

damn no way! Felt like these jars were stalling a bit to colonize, but still looked like good mycelium growth until i looked today..

I don't see any visable bacterial contamination. But these things start out without you seeing them for a while...
I would just leave them be and see if they ever finish out. Maybe they're stalling for some reason? Since they don't have a visable contamination, I see no harm at all in just leaving them sitting around to see what happens.

so the pure black spot (it is really the size of a grain of dirt) does not concern you?
Doc_T thinks it is bacteria. This is my first time, so it is hard to say if these jars are really stalling considering they are Multi Spore on rye. It looks like this jar will be colonized in 2 days max but i guess ill keep an eye on the dark spots.
like i said before, they dont look like small specks, rather it looks like darkness coming off of the rye grain. that black speck in the Macro shot is pure black tho when i look close with a Loop magnifier.

Oh, from the picture at first glance I just assumed it was grain pressed against the glass.
Could be grain pressed against the glass, could be bacteria.
You can either leave it be, shake it and wait, or toss it. Either way you'll either know what's going on or just be done with it.

cool thanks y'all im gunna shake it at full colonization.

That jar won't finish. If you shake it, the myc might cross over the grains and hide the bacteria. But that is contaminated, it will fruit poorly if at all and should not be used as a master jar.

Really, if you have more spawn, just toss any jars that look questionable. I could understand someone desparately trying to use what they got just to get some fruits, but if you can, toss it or it may ruin the whole thing. Also may cause health problems to eat any fruits of of contaminated substrate.

Shake that jar by banging against a tire or phone book. Break it up and return to its shelf to sit. I don't see any contamination but if it's there, it won't recolonize. If it's fine, it should be all white within a week or so. When you break it up to spawn, be sure to take a good whiff. It should smell like fresh mushrooms if it's good. If it smells like garbage, toss. RR

This is three days after shaking. Blasting mycelium (so far, no visible contams to me...) I'm assuming there is still a couple days till 100% colonization.

few spots like this at the bottom of the jar, looks like rye pressed up against the glass and then a circle growth of mycelium around it. looks kinda weird but hopefully healthy... got concerned earlier but might have been nothing to worry about.
Should I let them consolidate first after 100%, or immediately do G2G transfers with one (or both) of the jars. (does consolidation give you more time to spot contams? or more time for them to become visible?) or a waste of time?...

Yeah, I dont see any signs of contam either
Not sure what Doc_T is seeing
The jars look good. I would say 2 more days and they will be ready to work with.

Check out the first pics i posted, the last three show how there were these dark spots. I took a super upclose Macro shot with a macro lense on my iphone, and it shows how solid black the spots were. not sure what it was, if it was bad or not.
Not sure how i can get a good smell of the mycelium working in a Glove Box, what are your suggestions. unless the contams are visible i'll have to figure out how to take a contained wiff...
Would a sure fire way to make sure I have clean spawn be making up some agar plates/jars? (1/2 pint agar jars would be easier for me start with) Then I can visually see the mycelium and do transfers (which i should learn to do anyways asap).
Or would that be wasting my time now, and rather I should just wing it and do G2G to some Quart jars of rye. Assuming that everything is contam free considering smell and visual proof...

I never saw an end result to this. I have 6 jars four of them look the same at the pictures posted. Did this work? Is it contam?
