Casing doing nothing anymore...
    #1639437 - 06/17/03 12:48 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Ok. I crumbled up cake in ziplock bag put half inch wet perlite then the crumbled cake then a casing layer of peat moss, vermiculite, and oyster shells. The mycellium kept growing in the casing and now there is white mycellium growing on the side of the container and some on the top too...i put it into a rather small fruiting chamber just so it can start then I could move it...but nothing's happened. No pinning whatsoever or anything. Do I need more huumidity, colder temperature, or what? This is my first time with casings so please someone help me! Thank you.

How long since you cased it?

Today is the sixth day. I started to fruit it after 3 days in darkness when I saw some of the mycellium poking through the layer...but since then no pins or anything.

You need to tell us your environment... if you have 85% humidity, around 75f temps and a few fannings a day, all you can do is wait. Make sure to give 12-16 hours of light a day for optimum results. I have some cakes that i have been waiting on for almost two weeks now without pinning so don't get discouraged, it takes a while sometimes.

Might just be too soon yet to see anything...be patient. Good things will come!

Well I have the casing inside a plastic container 8" by 4 inches. The layer is 2 inches deep (1/2" wet perlite, 1" crumbled cake, 1/2" casing layer). As soon as I've seen the mycellium poke through on some parts of it I've been putting it under a fluorescent light. I only did about 2 hours a day though so thanks for the suggestion lemunhed. The plastic container is inside another plastic container that is about 7-8" high and almost the same width and length as the casing container. Under the casing container I have 1" layer of wet perlite. This is all closed and plastic wrapped. I fan about once a day...which I will now increase. Thank you...I hope it is just taking long.
