Rez-Effect
    #16392641 - 06/16/12 11:48 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Can anyone tell me where to find a good Rez-Effect that has worked for them, and exactly a step by step process from the Jar of spawn to the finished product. Or at least something kind of close to that. I would greatly appreciate it and will rate anyone extremely high if they can help me with this dilema. Thank you

Rez-effect s the same as spawning to verm. It works decently enough. But it works better if you throw some manure and gypsum in the mix.

If you're going to spawn to verm, just pasteurized or sterilize your verm, then spawn. I like high spawn ratios myself, so I would say not less than 1:2 spawn:verm. Maybe even 1:1 if you have the grain on hand.

Verm is not a suitable substrate material on its own.
Get a brick of coir, follow the bucket tek to keep it simple, make a monotub and you'll have much much better harvest weights.

Disagree.

Spawn to verm makes excellent "One flush wonders" sometimes the second flush ain't bad either. But after that.....done. Spawn to verm is not a bad way to go. Though I think you would be impressed with the added manure and gyp.

Not correct.

Verm is mineral and fungi has a voracious appetite for minerals.  This is why adding gypsum gives such a boost.  There may be better substrates out there, but vermiculite is definitely mushroom food as has been proved for 20 years with the pf tek.

One need only hydrate the vermiculite to field capacity, place in jars and sterilize.  Then mix with your spawn in a tray.  Cover and when fully colonized, remove the cover and fruit. Rez effect is a poor name for using verm as a bulk substrate.  It was originally thought by the person who coined that term that verm was only a water reservoir.  I also used to think this until my own experiments proved otherwise.

I'm glad you posted this.  I was under the impression the Verm was for water and the BRF was the nutrient in the PF tek.  Thanks

But being that you COULD use verm as a bulk substrate, doesn't necessarily mean one should tho, right?  I would have a better yield spawning to manure than Verm, correct? Or am I missing something?

Hello RR

First of all ...much respect for your work and for your knowledge.
I have few questions:
Should I sterilize or pasteurize vermiculite?
Mixing verm with spawn or layering?
If it fully colonized shall I apply casing? If yes, vermiculite(pasteurized) or peat+verm ?
And also dunk between the flushes?
Thank you for your help!

I'd recommend making a new thread for this question since this is an old thread, but I can definitely answer this.  I ain't RR but this is what I'd recommend; avoid rez-effect and do Damien5050's verm/coir bucket tek, it essentially results in pasteurized substrate.  I wouldn't layer it; mix it all together very well and make sure to mix the corners really well too.  Don't worry about casing if you're doing cubes.  I'd apply a very light layer of substrate to the top after spawning (like 1/8 inch or something) but even that's not really necessary. You can dunk it if your sub shrinks a lot and gets light in weight, just bottom water your tub for 2-4 hours and then drain it.  :goodluck:
