"There's a big machine in the sky, some kind of electric snake." What a weird movie. Disturbingly weird, like "The Twilight Zone."

It's a must see movie for stoners AND people who won't touch a drug. But it's not my favorite movie to see stoned; it's long and only understood if you listen to the dialog. The best movie while stoned is Yellow Submarine. It's also the only movie I'll watch tripping (thought you don't understand the story despite how simple it is)

Has anyone read the book?

I have the movie on DVD, so I can put the english captions on. I need them anyway, but they come in extra handy for people who are pretty wasted.

Um, because it goes something like: We haaa too bg of gra, five shee of hi pwer mesline, awhole galxe of multicoloredduppersdownersscreamerslaughers
eh, that's the best way I can portray mumbling in text. But it takes you a couple of times to understand what the heck they are saying. That's why some people can't stand the movie, although if you can sit through it a couple times you really appreciate it.

hunter s thompsons books are all great.
The movie is a good repsentation of the book. The artwork of Ralph Steadman played a big part in the way the characters were created.
My problem is when I tripped and saw the movie. I started to hear the dialog in the book throughout the movie. Stuff that was never in the movie. I still can't watch the movie without thinking of the books dialog.
I have the criterion collection DVD. It has great clips of hunter and johnny depp. And One BBC special from the 70's about hunter.

Because I'm "hard of hearing". After seeing it on DVD, I could understand the dialogue and plot of the film much better than I previously had.

The book is awesome, much better than the movie. I'm halfway through the Great Shark Hunt (Gonzo Papers, Vol. 1) which is also really good. I don't think any movie could capture his style but fear & loathing was a good attempt.

I just finished reading Fear and Loathing, and I really liked it. It's very strange but entertaining and it's a great movie to watch tripping because you don't know if what you are seeing is in the movie or because you are tripping...lol.
