I actually enjoyed the book, and the movie left me wanting to write a letter to my congressman. Brad Pitt isn't in college (as far as I know), so why the hell does he have hair to his shoulders?

And you'd be surprised what kind of movies I like. Top shelf shit to D grade.

Ugh, I wasn't even that big a fan of the book. It was okay, I guess. My favorite guy was that dude who hustled a cure for African Rabies and then bought a highly defensible place in Antarctica.

I think reading it at a point in my life where I was very paranoid of impeding catastrophe made it more enjoyable.
Yeah, that guy was a don. I liked the people that lived in a submarine, and made a Costner-less Water World-like city on the sea with other ships.

Yeah, Brooks came up with some pretty interesting stuff in that book. Fuck it, maybe I'll torrent it or something.

That's what I did. Getting an original Kindle has been the best investment of my life. You can download torrents with thousands of books for the kindle, so I've got an entire library on mine now.

I enjoy A Song of Ice and Fire, other than that I tend not to read. I should though, but I want to invest my time into a good book. Sadly it's hard to know which books are actually any good unless they've stood the test of time.

Aw man, people write great stuff every year. Don't give up on books. Smack has a point there; the market's still really flooded and it can be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. Just do the research, or pick up a book and read a third of it. If it sucks, stop.
Personal Recommendations: Graham Greene and Shirley Jackson. Flawless prose that cuts to the quick of the psyche. Unparalleled talent.

Back on topic:

Fantastic Planet (France/Czechoslovakia, 1973)
This mixed media cartoon was pretty cool, but definitely made for deeper thinking than many other cartoons. The animation was like Monty Python’s inter-titles: sharp definition pastels with paper cut-outs included. Very cool. It takes place on some distant planet where the Traag’s are basically how humans are on Earth, and keep pets called Oms, which are very humanoid. One Om steals a Traag’s learning device and the Oms learn the knowledge that the Traags have and foment an uprising. This film explored concepts of humanism, social hierarchy, warfare, the power of knowledge, with a message of living in harmony. Being that this was made in ’73, it was filled with hippies and lots of well designed “psychedelic” art. Pretty cool movie.

I'm really running out of steam on this project. Might just be temporary doldrums, but I'm thinking I bit off a lot more than I can chew. Anyhow:
#362
Slacker (U.S., 1991)
I really enjoyed this Richard Linklater film that has nothing resembling a plot. Instead, it just follows various 20-somethings over the course of a day in Houston. The funny and sometimes philosophical conversations move around freely and the viewer is just a roaming eye that can only live in the moment. The conversations eavesdropped on cover all sorts of topics, and while they’re generally comical, they frequently skirt philosophy. Lotsa funny and interesting stuff in this structure-less film that foreshadows his 2001 animated picture ‘Waking Life’.
A REAL CHERK: This one woman is selling what she claimed Madonna’s pap smear. “It even had a pube on it, but some asshole stole it.”

It really is timeless in that aspect, but I think 'Waking Life' was way more hipster (whatever the fuck that is anymore). I didn't like that movie though.

Okay, this project is officially on hold for the next month or so. I'm gonna do the write-ups I have to do before I forget, but I'm a little bit burned out on movies in general and I'm moving halfway across the country in a few weeks. For now, thanks to everyone who's been reading and contributing to this thread; the project is far from finished, but I'm going on hiatus.

LOL, it's actually kinda funny. I was packing boxes just after making that post and found a notebook that has like a dozen write-ups that I had just chalked up as "lost forever" and thought I'd have to re-watch and re-write. I might just type them up rapid-fire before I move and then take hiatus.
There's no yet!

LOL, fuck
so you've still got the hook in you, now.
Good! more notable movies that pubbers will ignore and that people hopefully won't.

i just got your PM with your disdain and butthurt for me.
thanks.
can i post my response or is that a bannable offence, too, Burke?
PS: since you brought this up, i'll clarify for anyone who is wondering why pubbers get a bad rep... well, because half the posters that post there make the pub look like hell for retards, that's why. but the rest of the peeps that don't come out of the wookwork when ever they can pander an opinion like they're trying to be important; those peeps... the normies, they're awesome people in general.
