It is a good movie, i've just now begun to read the book though, and i'm going to see the other Hunter S. Thompson movies soon. This movie is a real treat to tripers.

failure said: About a year ago I met the lawyer whom the character of Dr. Gonzo is based on... needless to say, he was a really cool guy. He's a professor at a major university and i think is also judge. I happened to be lucky enough to sit in on his class when he told the story about Fear and Loathing and his relationship to Hunter S Thompson. A real treat that was unexpected as I was just visiting my cousin who is an actual student at the school.
The guy that Dr. Gonzo was based on was a laywer in the 60s called Oscar Zeta Acosta. He went missing in 1974 and is presumed dead. More info - Clicky.
Unless, of course, he didn't die and secretly started a new life as a college lecturer I don't think it's the same guy.

Oddly I always thought that the "lawyer" was just a figment of Hunter S. Thompson's imagination. Sort of like an alter ego or spiritual scapegoat.

Raoul was a pen name Hunter used. I think he mainly used it for editorials and other writings that were sure to raise hell. Kind of an alter ego. The madman on the inside of Thompson.

it was a good movie, would not watch it trippin, but it creates a bad vibe for psychdelics, a anti drug person would just think more worst of psychdelics, the visuals they created from the "hotal checking in" scene after he had took the acid was pretty realistic.

Hell yeah! Fear And Loathing is crazy. Literally crazy... the first time I watched it I barely understood it. And wait... I still dont understand it that much. I want to read the book. But definitely get this while on any drug.. or even sober.

Fear and Loathing is an all time favorite... there was a time when I could not come down from a trip without watching it.

Scarface is the shit too...But in a darker type of way, I think...

I bought mine at BestBuy. But if you liked the movie then you or EVERYBODY who's never read the book should read the book. The book tells a lot of what the movie didn't and you'll understand the movie more.
I've never been much of a reader but I finished Fear n Loathing in a week. It's a great book.
