NEED help reaching 100% humidity

Hours ago I put the perlite in my and have been misting to try to get it to 100% humidity in my sgfc and I cant get above 85 on my analog thermometer (no cakes in sgfc.) It is in my closet and I heard u meed natural air flow so does that mean it could be cause the closet? And also I dont get still when I can mist directly on the cake or not or if I should always mist towards the walls.

Your hygrometer might need to be calibrated. Wrap it in a damp paper towel for about an hour. The reading you get after that hour is your 100% mark. I did that to mine earlier and it topped out at 92%. Maybe 85% is the highest your hygrometer will read. This is a good way to test that.

Calibrate your hygrometer by wrapping a wet towel around it for 10-15 mins, if it doesnt reach 99% then whatever it reads is actually 99% Yes if it is a small closet and the door is shut point a fan toward the bottom of the closet door. Mist the cakes directly, the walls arent growing the fruits the cakes are.

I wouldn't worry about the hygrometer reading, they're usually not accurate. If you have a properly set up SGFC, you should be fine. The room or closet's RH should be at least 30%, and you're golden. Your cakes will tell you if you have a problem with the RH. 100% RH with FAE is unrealistic. 92-95% is ideal.

Use an ultrasonic humidifier. Guaranteed to work, no messy perlite, no algea.

There like $40 but reusable, perlite you have to replace. Plus that are humidity and FAE in one.
If you have a cycle timer (which pretty much only weed growers have), you can time them to where they don't over-fog.

Perlite is good for life and your kids life and your grand kids life. Your SGFC could be the next family heirloom.
Who told you otherwise?

Just follow the tek for the SGFC. Lots of bad advice being given here. Esp for new growers, an SGFC is perfect. But don't run a fan. It messes with the natural convection created by the heat in the SGFC. cool air is pulled through the bottom with the perlite into the chamber. Works like a charm.

Woa there now. Perlite will probably last thousands of years since it's mineral. A made in china ultrasonic humidifier will be lucky to last one. Perlite isn't messy, and algae will not grow on it unless you get the wrong stuff from miracle grow with chemical 'fertilizer' in it.
To correct something someone else said above, you should never run a fan in the room with a shotgun terrarium. Fans screw up the natural circulation in a room on which the terrarium design depends for proper operation. Elevate the terrarium on blocks and set it on a table or shelf in an open room, not a closet. A window should be at least partly cracked open for fresh air.
Also, to the original poster, don't get hung up on your made in china hygrometer reading. If you built your shotgun terrarium to specs, you can be sure your humidity and fresh air exchange are at the right level. Never sacrifice fresh air supply in favor of humidity. RR

You won't get the right air currents in the closet , you should have it out in an open room with a window cracked open and the light in the fc will lower your rh

Light in FC = no no. Heat bad. Hotter interior FC = more condensation. Condensation is humidity being removed from the air and stuck to the walls and heat sources. It's created by a temp differential between the inside and outside of the FC. The same way your windshield fogs up under certain conditions in your car.
