this is my second year hunting for shrooms and I thought I might have a look around this weekend but I love hiking as well and now I am looking for a nice photogenic landscape plus shroom area. Can anyone recommend a lovely hiking area not too far north? I am from london and I have to use public transport so I don't want to waste to much time on a train or bus. Any ideas are much appreciated!
thank you!!!

Hey y'all, Just registered on here hoping to find some timely advice on picking in Suffolk.

I've been out 4 or 5 times over the last couple of weeks but found nothing.

Anyone in Suffolk found any yet?

Good vibes~~~

I'm in Suffolk too, had a couple of walks recently and found nothing also. Not even other mushrooms! Sad times.

Also in Suffolk. Finding loads of mushrooms but no Libs

Man, been out again today and still nothing! I'm new to Suffolk so don't know any sweet spots but I know the kind of environments libs like to hang out in... At least I thought I knew! Someones been posting that they're finding some in Norfolk so they gotta be around somewhere here!!! Let me know if you find any guys and I'll do likewise! A bit of inspiration if nothing else:wink:

Sub-zero temps at night. Hard frosts every morning. No rain. Could it be over already for us in Glasgow?

I've done some serious leg-work this last 2 months and the only thing I have to show for it is haemorroids and a pathalogical fear of cows :frown:

I don't think the frosts are bad enough to end the game yet! At least, I seriously hope not.
I'm still finding all sorts of different mushrooms around, which to me is a good sign.
However, the lib season in Glasgow this year has been abysmal, going out for a gander tomorrow to see what's happening.

Hi all,

good to hear and see some great hauls.
I've had joy in the peaks and in the south East of England, below London.

However, I went on a local walk the other day upto the chilterns and found nadda. And there chilterns at around 200metres up I was starting to think as the hills are chalk maybe the chalk takes in water pretty well leaving the soil not so moist? Any idea ?

Thanks

I've had no joy around the children's either. 100-200 meters. I know spots that have been good in previous years but they're not bearing anything at the mo. I would've thought it would be perfect now as well, lot of rain. Maybe too early still?

Hi mate yea around 3000  in total I did mention that I have allready done 4 batches of around 500 each dried and then put in the oven, what I can do is post a pic of around 40 gram of pure mushys ground up, I been picking for 15 years everyone comes to me as Iam experienced. I dry and weight mine also make captuales 2g in each pure shroom dust. The pics posted tonite are about and hours work at these fields if I get out for a full day again I would hope to find around 1500 again sorry bud but Iam very honest and love both picking and the harvest time. hear is a pick of them what i picked today the ones posted in the pics tonite, dried ready to be ground up next half hour looks devistating ino but there all good.

Peace out buddy

Good skills HeyPresto! What area of the UK are you picking in? Guessing  Lakes or Peaks? I'm very jealous. Finding 200  counts as a decent year for me here in E Yorks, looks like that would be an average half an hour for you!

Re: people asking about the season, things have only come good in late Oct-eary Nov for me the last 2 years, so I was surprised to hear people wondering if we're reaching the end of the season now...maybe

maybe I'm being complacent based on the last 2 yrs being late, and actually I should have been out by now.
Going to try my first hunts of the year tomorrow and Friday anyway.

HeyP - do you use a blender to turn your dried mushies to dust? Do you do this as soon as they're dried? Only I wondered if the increased surface area from doing this would lead to speedier depletion of strength...?

Happy hunting all.

I'v seen a few posts asking where shrooms can be found and was thinking it would be nice to get some kind of zoomable UK map on the go where posters can flag exact fields where libs can be found.

That is against the rules here, but you can do that on mushroomobserver.org.  You can define locations that are as small or large as you like, to give people exact directions or just a general area.  The distribution map is zoomable and if you define your location exactly it can show exact fields.

You can also put in exact GPS coordinates of the find.

http://mushroomobserver.org/name/map/3486

Hmmm...hadn't seen that one before. Is my computer not liking the programme or are there basically no markers anywhere in the UK and very few on the world map at all? Seems kinda pointless. I assume people aren't posting genuine sites on there for the reasons already suggested...

Iv gone out picking a few times this year but I don't think 40g is 3000, I think that's an exaggeration or very small shrooms and the ones I your pic look pretty big, I'm not calling you a lier but how do get 2gs in a capsule? Are you using the things from inside kinder eggs or something? your average paracetamol capsule holds 500mg of very fine powder and a 2g bomb is the size of a golf ball??? I don't grind mine up I just dry the on sheets of cardboard with a dehumidifier, once yesterday's haul dries I wil post a picture of dry shrooms and a weight, I'm guessing around 30ish grams for what I think can't be much more than 1200 if that many at all, when you have a hundred or 2 it's easy to lay them out all meet and count but I just throw them down dry them and weigh them,

Alright mate,

Ye it it a bit strange, because down in Sussex I was finding a fair bit, at lower altitudes than the chilterns! This is why I thought the chalky hills taking in all the moisture. Still I do remain optomistic for the chilterns as they are my localalish hills!

Give me a PM or a shout if you fancy a hunt

Blessings

Too much calcium deposits in soil could neutralize ideal pH is my guess.

Good luck mate, I've pretty much thrown in the towel tho! I've covered a lot of ground these last 3 days and found zilch! I'm hardly finding any fungus what-so-ever, mostly the odd half-globe and the wee orange parasol type! Pans are heavy conspicuous by their absence.
A wee bit of rain might flush out some sporadic fruitings if we're lucky but I'm not holding my breath!

Really hope u prove me wrong and bag a ton
