CO2 Exchange
    #1637025 - 06/16/03 09:04 AM (20 years, 8 months ago)

One quick question, how necessary are holes in a terrarium to allow CO2 to escape, everyone says you need them, but then some people don't.

P.S.- Im not using perlite

Any Suggestions ??

holes are not good for a fruiting chamber unless they have a filter. if u put a strait up hole in ur chamber it will be a lot harder to maintain a constant humidity. what i did before i had anything like a pump to provide gas exchange is i poke a hole the size of the end of a pencil eraser into the side of my tupper ware container. i pulled poly fil thru as to work as a filter so co2 buld ups would not occur, while keeping humidity in and contams out. if there are co2 build ups u will have smaller mushrooms, sometimes hollow stems due to the mushroom streching to much to reach a location with less co2, and usually a co2 build up will cause more aborts to occur as well. even if u manually fan ur chamber, the build ups will always occur. i find fish tank bubblers to be very cheap/effective.. they cost about 5 dollars for a cheap one and i just feed the hose coming from the pump into a jar with water and a three percent mix in of hydrogen peroxide.. i find this proviodes both suffcient gas exchange and humidity while the h2O2 keeps things hella sterile

i hope ive helped
