DOD is #1 !!!

This mind-boggling summary of various 'companies', as well as the subsequent commentary is from Adbuster's magazine, v. 11, no. 3 (May / June 2003).

    Company (Budget/Revenue)

Dept. of Defense ($ 364.634 billion)
    Wal Mart ($217.799 billion)
    Exxon/Mobil (213.488 billion)
    GM (186.244 billion)
    Ford (162.409 billion)
    Altria (89.924 billion)
    Time/Warner (38.234 billion)
    Salvation Army (2.313 million)

The U.S. Military market position is absolutely eye-popping. In the coming year, the nation will spend as much on what they continue to call 'defense' as the rest of the worlds 191 countries combined.

If you can step back far enough, a question may emerge - How did we get here? When Dwight Eisenhower gave his final address as president in 1961, he warned against what was the new danger of "an immense military establishment and a large arms industry." It was Dwight, not the hippies, who popularized the term 'military industrial complex'. At every step along the way, that complex has been built onto the psychology of permanent war: World War II, the Cold War, and now the War on Terror. In such a state of endless crisis, there is never any chance to wonder whether democracy and free choice should play any role in such a mammoth machine. And the next project is already around the corner?. George Bush calls it 'the military of the next century'.

Department of Defense...ha. Just how Orwellian can you get?

The same politicians who cry for privatization and market discipline for everyone else are they same ones who continously hand off blank checks to their friends at Boeing.

The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.
