a unique grow bag question, help please!
    #1636286 - 06/15/03 11:55 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

im sure these grow bag questions are getting stale, but the one im thinking of is one ive not seen addressed on here. my pet monkeyis colonizing in a standard grow bag, placed in a box with a heating pad keeping the temp at a consistent 86 degrees. The question is would it be beneficial to filter in air slowly using a small sterilized aquarium pump (not into the bag, into the box) and making small holes for the air to circulate. what about doing it using an alcohol swab filter over the end thats in the box? also setting it on a timer, x hours on / x hours off? im sorry if the questions are irrelevant or too much, but im genuinely interested. any advice would be appreciated.

Are you talking about an incubator or a terrarium?

theyre grow bags, in a cardboard box, with a heat pad underneath, and a thermometer between the bags and the bottom of the box. i heard 86 degrees is good, but is a little airflow through the box helpful or harmful?

Just be sure to filter the air you're pumping in. Get a tupperware container that the pump will fit into, and cut a hole in the container. Cover the hole with a filter. Poke a hole in the containter to fish the tubing into (be sure it's a tight seal). Now all the air pumping into the incubator is clean.

It's not really necessary, but a little fresh air every now and then is good to remove the CO2 and introduce some good ol' O2.

a little airflow into the box will do nothing using a mycobag, or any other bag on the market, the filter is primarily just allowing gas to escape and not taking it in

I don?t agree on this. The filter is gas permeable both ways. Which it must be if you take into concern that the mycelium requires oxygen to grow.
