Home cultivated Fly Agrics??
    #1636217 - 06/15/03 10:59 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

I was reading up on Bonsai trees here...

http://www.bonsaiweb.com/guide/

Amanita muscaria (Fly Agaric) grow in symbiosis with mosly pine, spruce, and birch trees. These are all impractical for the home cultivator. However Bonsai are a kind of miniature of those varieties.Bonsai's also usually come with alreday exposed roots.Would it not follow that it would be possible to introduce a liquid culture of Amanita muscaria to these roots in the hopes os germination??  Just a thought. I think it's possible but then what do I know? I present it to you my fellow shroomery members .....please be honest if you think this is waaaaay off the wall. :smirk:

The problem with Bonsai is that it's very old and it will be hard to introduce a new fungus to it. It would be better to inoculate young seedlings of these trees.
Eric Danell had some success with mycorrhizal cantharelles. He fruited them in a pot with pine seedling that was no more then a foot tall.

I think the mycelia is supposedly easy to cultivate on grain. It may be practical to make an extraction from that.
