Went back and collected the buttons I left last time. Beautiful mushrooms and so delicious! I can't believe it took me so long to build up the courage to try one.

One of my favorites. I cut them so they are in the shape or rings and fry them like onion rings

You're missing out if you haven't tried them. They're up there with the best in my opinion. I really want some now but my patch is about 300kms away.

Hey guys, don't mean to hijack or anything but I had this mushroom IDed as Chlorophyllum sp. by Alan. I remember it bruised red and had a bit of a weird smell, could this be the same edible species as posted above?

without seeing the base of the stipe perfectly, and as long as the spores arent green id say ya those are both C rachodes. C brunneum is really similiar but would have a right angle bend at the base of the stem. look it up you'll know what im talking about.
i have another Chlorophylum here in the PNW, called C olivieri as well. it has a cool blueish grey tinge in the scales sometimes. i havent seen it in a few years though.

Is this Chlorophyllum rhacodes?
How can you spot them between Chlorophyllum molybdites?
Thanks

There are many differences, the easy way for an untrained eye is to just spore print them though.
C. molybdites has a green print.
Edible Chlorophyllum and Macrolepiota have a white print.

Wow! I am totally trying this next time my patch pops some up, as long as I beat the slugs to them.

It is probably an edible Chlorophyllum sp. if you gather some print them, and post them up for ID.

Oh and @Symon They are an amazingly good edible, you should give them a shot. They have an awesome texture and an almost nutty kind of flavour.

That sounds amazing. The caps look perfect for stuffing but I wasn't sure what to stuff them with. I was gonna try this recipe I found online says to scrape gills out and stuff with wild rice, parmesan cheese, Garlic, and Shallots.

A good spinach dip with some shallots is good too. You can cook them so many ways, it's on of the reasons they are in the top 3 for me. Stuffed with crab and garlic butter/cream cheese
