I believe that it is erroneous to assume that either cannabis or mushrooms will be harmful to mental health. The brain is much too complex for such a stereotype to be made. A mushroom trip can be a very traumatic experience. For some people, this will be beneficial, in much the same way as living through a near death experience can be beneficial. For others, this will be detrimental, in much the same way as living through a near death experience can be detrimental. However, these examples are the extreme. For most people, the experience is fun rather than traumatic, with mental health consequences being negligible.
It is unfortunate that politics has influenced science, and medicine, with respect to cannabis and mushrooms. The political meddling has polluted the available information (and research) with bias. It is difficult to know what to believe when so many conflicting results are published.

I find that marijuana has a more negative effect on my mental state, but I wouldn't assume this is the same for everyone. It's probably partially due to the fact that I dabble with marijuana weekly and keep my mushroom trips spaced apart over many months.
If I smoke weed more than twice a week (even more-so if these days are back-to-back) it usually effects my memory, ability to solve problems, makes me a bit paranoid (not in the sense of the government is out to get me, but rather that people are judging me), etc. These negative effects quickly dissipate once I've been clean for a few days.
Long-term, frequent use of either could easily cause problems.. no doubt.

Neither substance is inherently detrimental. Frequency and dosage will determine whether mental disfunctioning occurs. One a month, neither should cause any cognitive dissruption. Once a day - cannabis would likely slow your thought process and diminish your short term memory somewhat. To a degree that would warrant stopping; that would depend on the person. Mushrooms once a day would probably cause just about anyone to loose their grip on reality sooner or later.

there are too many variables to draw a broad generalization that would then be applicable to your self.
If you want to be cautious I would recommend gradually increasing your dose/frequency to whatever level you want, all the while watching your self closely and getting feedback from those who know you.
Your own responses to these drugs will tell you much more than what you can read about or get advice from here. One thing to note however is that long term mental health problems precipitated by these drugs is very rare. For example marijuana induced depersonalization is much less likely to be permenant then depersonalization that is not drug induced. (you can go to pub med and search for papers on marijuana + depersonalization if your skeptical of this statement).

all of my friends are way more afraid of the mushroom than the weed . "mushrooms will fuck you up dude, watch out" seems to be the motto. i assume they preach this because they have seen friends who suddenly have drastic changes in philosophy and demeanor after venturing deep into the chaos that is a level 4 or 5 mushroom revalation.

b-e-a-utiful! This explanation explains alot about how life is in general.. and this kind of reasoning is why I believe that a god is false.. atleast of how most humans believe what god is.. ie jesus..
but as for the mental effects between the two.. listen to this guy.. for you.. you probably smoke weed everyday.. (if not, example).. and i dont. you smoke because its beneficial for you, i dont because it scares the living shit outta me. but i love kratom.. you may hate it..
to each their own.. human law is a big difference when it comes to actual universal laws of life.

Same here. But that being said, I think marijuana only intensifies and highlights the problems that are already there. With a deeper understanding of what your problems are, you can start developing out of them. If you smoke too much without knowing this, or how to work on your problems, though, it can fuck you up pretty bad.

Before or after you experimented with other mind altering drugs? Hanging out with untrustworthy or stressful people can help too.

What is this, reefer madness?
The brain is way too complex to say either of them cause mental health issues...the subconscious runs deep. Some people just have problems and some don't

I know I would better off taking mushrooms once a month, instead of smoking weed daily. Of course I could do both, but smoking weed everyday just makes me too apathetic towards tripping I guess. Anyone ever had a trip where as you were coming down you got all inspired about taking life to the next level through sobriety and pro-actice living... and then it just sort of fizzles out and you start smoking weed and just dickin' around again? lol don't lie.. who's been there?
