Wow!!!!!

Fuckin' sweet, Effed!

I really need to get out to the woods again ASAP.  Those are some really cool finds.  That first unknown is especially neat-lookin'!

I would try to help ID the unknowns, but I'm sure that if you couldn't with the books you have; I will not be able to with the one I have.  I hope someone else here can help you out, though!

You should really start up your own site on "Fungi of Ohio" cuz I know you have a lot of pics of different species.  If you need any help at all, PM me and I'll help you out with whatever I can.

Again, nice photos!  I love posts like this!!!

Peace,

RebelSteve

Check your PM's!

P.S.  Did you take/are you taking spore prints for any of those mushrooms?  That would help in ID'ing them, you know!  Info on the gills and stems would be nice, too.

Peace,

RebelSteve

Here's some guesses at your unknowns:

#1 - looks old and rotted. Maybe an Amanita once upon a time?
#2 - looks close to Mycena epipterygia.
#3 - we need to see more, especially the underside. Collybia, maybe?
#4 - we really need to look at those with a magnifier to get a good idea where they belong. A drop or two of ferrous sulfate would tell us things, too. Very crudely guessing, maybe a Clavaria?

Happy mushrooming!

I agree with Toxicman, #2 definitely looks like a Mycena of some sort. Did you check it for bluing? There are a few species of Mycena that actually show bluing, although they are sorta rare. A couple are listed as being active.
I use to find a species of mycena that would bruise blue. I'd only find about 3 or 4 specimens a year. It looked very similiar to the mushroom in your pic. Of course a lot of the mycenas look similiar to me.
Here's some pics of the ones I found in 2001........

Anyhow you cant tell in the picture but they have a green tinge around the outside of the cap.
I did not disturb them so I dont know about bruising.

I didn't try 'em. They were extremely small mushrooms. I would only find from 1 to 4 specimens a year. Unless they were some extra super-duper potent mushroom, it would probably take a plate full, to bioassay. Also, since they weren't a Psilocybe species, and I know very little about the mycenas, I probably wouldn't have tried 'em anyway.
Mj and another person are the only ones I know of who've had any experience with active Mycenas.
I've found other Mycenas that looked  identical to the blue-bruising ones that I found, but they showed no bluing whatsoever. Probably at a ratio of 100 no- blue to 1 bluing.
Toxicman probably nailed the species down with his guess.
I posted those pics just to show that it can occur with that species.

Effed, great pics BTW

Bluing mycena! :ooo: But it could be also something else. It looks like a mycena but they usually grow in tufts and directly from wood.
Did you get the spore print? Was it really white?

When I first found the bluing mycenas, I thought they were some type of psilocybe ( shows you how much I knew at the time about mushrooms.....which was very little) They were shaped similiar to the pelliculosa type group of mushrooms. I tried to take a sporeprint, but I used white paper, and of course being a mycena, no print showed up. Stil,l I thought it was a species of psilocybe that maybe was sterile, or just stubborn about dropping the spores. I only had 2 specimens to print, and it was 2 years before I found anymore. By then I was a little more informed about mushrooms and the chances of it being another species, so I used a dark blue piece of paper, which was all I could find at the time. The print turned out white. Unfortunately, I was busy cutting and clearing hurricane damaged trees when I found'em, and the print was lost during the process. The few specimens that I've come across since then, were at times that were not under favorable conditions to photograph or print. I was too busy working and/or the boss was around.
I'm hoping to find these again someday, so I can send a print to Workman. BTW, Workman use to have some pics of some beautiful blue mycenas at his site. Check'em out, they may still be posted there.

Zeronio, I've found these mycenas attached to the edges of leaves and sticks occasionally, but usually they've been found growing directly from decaying logs.

The two species of mycena which contain psilocybine do not usually ruise blue. They are bluee at the base of the stem when plucked from the earth.only the bulbous base is a light blue azure color.
