P. cubensis "Burma" on coco coir/brf cake
    #1634578 - 06/15/03 04:24 AM (20 years, 10 months ago)

Well, I was experimenting a bit with using coco coir instead of vermiculite.
Basically I saturated coco coir to field capacity and then mixed in BRF. For a jar around 150 ml saturated coco coir and 40 ml BRF. Sterilized in a pressure cooker for 60 minutes.
After the jars were cooled, I inoculated them with liquid mycelium, prepared as of Mycelium Inoculation Technique .

Be forewarned: if you don?t have a proper pressure cooker, don?t even think about it.
Around half of the jars succumbed to bacterial contamination. It seems that coco coir has a very high load of bacteria and it is notoriously hard to completely sterilize.

The cake on the left is a coco coir/brf cake , topped with moist vermiculite, bedded on moist vermiculite, in a filter patch bag. There was no maintenance after the cake was put on the moist vermiculite.

interesting. i haven't heard of the Burmese (?Myanmaran?) strain before. was this just to try to help out people who don't have access to verm - and if so, should you not also have used moist coco coir for the end casings?

nice to see you around, anno.

Those have some nice nipples.

I've never heard of "burma" either. Any more pics of the same strain? It looks delicious.
