Liquid Mycelium Culture
    #1633825 - 06/14/03 08:20 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

I have Malabar mycelium growing in a water/malt solution.
Last week I took 10ml of an healthy colonized malt solution to
inoculate 2 quart jars of popcorn substrate.Popcorn is now completly
covered by heavy ryzomorphiq mycelium.I've shake them well and wait for tomorow
to inoculate straw.

I'd like to know what else can I do with this malt solution?
I know I could do some PF cake, but this is not my goal.I want to
try something new!!!

Any idea is greatly appreciated.

Whatever you want to do with live fungal cells

Maybe inoculate bags with 4 quarts of substrate each bag?

Once straw in a bag is colonized, do you crumble it in a container?
I personally prefer to put the pasteurized straw directly in tha container with
colonized grain and wait for complete colonisation of the substrate.I then apply
a 50/50+ casing layer.

I'd like to have a link or something about straw bags.
Thanks

That's exactly what I do, except I use straight peat (not generally recommended.)

With bags I was talking about sterilized brf substrate or whole-grain brown rice. Shoot up w/ some liquid mycelium.

do you sterilize grain in a bag??I never tried this.
i don't trust putting plastic in my pc.
I like jars cuz I can give some gaz exchanges, easyer to shake and i never saw
any contamination running in these jars.

I thought about using 1 or 2 mycelium syringes to inoculate pasteurized straw.
What you guy thinks!

I buy autoclavable (pressure-cook-able) bags with filter-patches already on them for air exchange. They work great, but I also have an impulse sealer, now, which makes sealing them a lot easier than when I had to use a lighter.

Zeronio mentioned using tape, however; apparently this can work, too.

I like bags because you can put a lot of substrate in them and shake them (even with brf) so they colonize faster.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try.

I've order petri dishes to try strain isolation on agar.
I'm pretty new to agar,so i'd like to know why it is good to
isolate a strain on it.

In my thought, it's like cloning some weed.

Do an isolated strain produce higher yields, bigger fruits, identic mushrooms,
or what!!!
Thanks again for your help micro
