Friend with Overinflated Ego

I have a friend who has a big, overinflated ego, and refuses to take any psychadelics. Is there anything else I can do to help him see past his ego or should I just forget about it and live with it?

Well, he seems to try to paint himself in some sort of superior light in some way. Like, for example, he's always bragging about what a great guitarist he is, and he talks about how he's a member of the "one true church, established by Jesus Christ."(He's born and raised Catholic) He has a bit of an arrogance problem.

Then w/e, screw him. If he really doesn't want to do them forget about it. I think he's wrong but hey, thats what choices and freedom are about...
For his arrogance on the other hand just be like, alright for real now. People believe different things, you say you're a member of the "true" church well stfu cuz thats what everyone believes...so keep it to yourself cuz I'm done hearing it. About the guitar thing, make a new friend thats even better than him and its over Thats what I did...

Dont force him to trip, thats not cool at all. Plus would most likely end up with a bad trip and him hating psychedelics (more).

we all have an ego. "overinflated" is just subjective in comparison to your ego. instead of saying "screw him" realize that his ego is just as gross to you, as your ego is to joesmoe. my advice, accept him for who he is.

This has nothing to do with me not liking him. He's a good friend despite his flaws. I'm just trying to help him in the same way that psychadelics have helped me.

I have two friends like yours. One ate an 1/8 of shrooms to "get fucked up" and had a pretty stong trip and even experienced somthing where he said he thought he was dead. Ego death I thought but turned out he didnt change a bit and is just scared of psychedelics. The other one just crawled in a corner of a room in a fetal posision for a couple hours and when he came back threw his bag of shrooms away.
People like them are so attached to their ego that tripping just scares them becuase it threatens their identity. My guess is if you friend tripped that he would just have a bad trip and think psychedelics are the devil.

Actually, he did do shrooms in High School(at school, in fact), and you're right. He DOES think psychadelics are the devil. That's why I started this thread to look for suggestions on what else I could do for him.

You can't force open mindedness, and the only person that can truely help themselves is in fact, themselves. In all respects, you can't really make him live life your way. Try not to preach your ideals onto him too much, but rather just let him be. Everyone chooses their own path in life - there isn't really any wrong path, but just different paths that we choose of own accord.
