Casing contamination prevention?!

I have a friend with a casing that looks like it is contaminated as shit with cobweb, he isn't sure yet he'll keep watching, but his question is: how do you prevent a casing from contaminating? Is there anything you can do other than just shooting craps and hoping it doesn't get contaminated? I have heard spraying alot of H202 is bad, but i can't think of any other way to prevent contams when in the fruiting chamber. Any help would be very welcome. Thanks.

keep the humidity at around 80-85% and that will reduce your cob-web mold also using h2o/h2o2 will not hurt the mycelium too bad that it can not recover but it does sometimes cause pins to abhort.

Keep humidity lower.. Dont mist allot keep pools of water off your casing a mist here and there is ok if using a fan to remove C02 make sure fan does not have any dust build up use oust to sterilize the air before fanning using perlite on bottom as your humidity mix a good ratio of h202 in with this when misting use a 10 parts water 1 part h202 in your water also using a casing mixture that can use hydrated lime reduces contaminates sterilize your casing mixture even when patching Keep good hygiene and room smoke and people free for the most part you are the biggest walking contaminate in your house

Cobweb is usually caused by high humidity. Trichoderma is usually caused by uncolonized substrate, undecomposed plant matter in the casing and dead or weak mycelium. I just keep my stuff in a tall clear tupperware bin w/ saran wrap, use just peat/lime and mist/fan once a day and I've never had a problem with contamination unless I neglected the casing for like a week. Peat is tricky -- make sure you pick out ALL of the sticks and stuff if you're using peat, pH it correctly with lime, and adding vermiculite helps. Otherwise, make sure you colonize it fast (optimal conditions i.e. a bit of CO2 buidup) fruit at the right time and keep the humidity at the right level and you really shouldn't have a problem, IMO. Blowing a HEPA filter up into your casings (which should be above the ground) doesn't hurt, either. -- Micro

Sterilize your media, add 1% h2o2 (peroxide) until field moisture is obtained (squeezing a handful firmly produces a drop or two of h2o2 drip-off), adjust the pH of the hydrated media to 8-10, and keep covered with plastic and in total darkness until surface is colonized. Also, pick your fruits BEFORE the veil breaks, even if you think you may get a little more size if you wait longer. Spores that land on the casing surface will lead to contamination, usually seen a week or so after the flush.

Is this cob-web stuff on a casing (when humidity is too high) bad stuff to have or will a casing survive?

Usually i don't think your casing survives. It is some pretty tenacious shit, maybe cambo's or something wold burn through it.
