That sounds like a heavy onion, but nevermind, my point wasn't to compare toxicity gram for gram, but to compare toxicity for typical amounts ingested. So let's change my raw onion to whatever number of grams is typical in a meal that contains onions. When I eat that amount raw on an empty stomach, I still get "toxic" negative effects that are worse than the ones I get from tea made of 1-2 grams of dried Psilocybe Cubensis. Hell, just peeling the onion before eating it makes my eyes itch and water severely. Only tear gas (is it toxic?) has a worse effect on me in that department.
And I am not denying that in very rare cases people go psychotic from shrooms, but do you really consider this to be a pure toxic effect, or could other factors be involved?

Could be. When one is bitten by a rattlesnake, it might not be the venom causing convulsions; could be the cornflakes they had at breakfast, but not likely.

This could be systematically tested of course. Have 100 people get bitten by rattlesnakes, and count how many of them who get convulsions shortly after. Then have another 100 people eat 5 mg psilocybin each and count how many of them become psychotic and try to trash the apartment or laboratory etc.

"oxygen is WAY more addictive. you crave it like its your last breath."
heh yeah I've always thought about that, how when we're walking around "sober," we're still all "fucked-up" on oxygen mann that's some good shit!

"Oxygen gets you high... in a catastrophic emergency, taking deep gulps of air.. blah blah" Yeah yeah yeah... we've all seen Fight Club. No sense in quoting the entire dialog.

4-HO-DMT is completely non-toxic to, as far as I know, all life on this earth. Why would a plant evolve neurotransmitters as defense mechanisms? An even greature question, how? It's not as though the plant knows our brains to be dependent on such a similar molecule, 5-HO-T.
Putting me in the mood to dance around the coffee table is not a great deterrant.

"Why would a plant evolve neurotransmitters as defense mechanisms?"
some people have proposed that some plants do this in order to ensure their survival, counting on life-forms to propagate them..

*Ahem* And how many species have you administered 4-HO-DMT to? One out of milllions?

Ped, have you seen many animals eating plants containing 4-HO-DMT? ;P

there are like billions of species of plants on earth and probably millions of poisonous plants, most of which have no psychedelic properties.
it's not surprising that some of them would produce chemicals that resemble neurotransmitters. it's bound to happen.

Cheers guys and I must say you are right!
I suppose there was some definate positive outcomes.
The other thing is I was on my comedown and I think I felt angry because I couldn't make sense of it. That sense of comfort and stability that is with you everyday was ripped away and I still don't know if this feeling does outway the positive effects.
I like the yin/yang theory as well no good without bad!
Oh & I now see how silly my assumptions were.

I can relate though. Bad trips are the worst. You think you are going insane, and you keep telling yourself it's just the shrooms, but..... why is the center of your vision caving in like an hour glass effect? Why is the room bubbling and melting and why is your brother's head shrinking? This is beside the point, it is exactly this - looking to the shrooms' effects - that get people to see it as a poison, in such a negative light, when really, 9 times out of 10 it always has to do with setting, the people you're with, and remembering any importantant things you have to take care of soon.
