Found West of albany, new york, please ID, was growing on my lawn, I only want to know if it is active. If there is anything else I should put in here (spore print, description) please tell me. Thank you.

I think we're gonna need a spore print and a description to ID that little thing. Also, was it growing near any trees? If so, what kind (if you don't know, at least tell us if they're evergreens or not).

Thanks, I guess the pictures describe shape and color, ill try to have a spore print of it soon. I'd say it wus about 20 feet away from an Oak? I'm not sure, but the tree was definately not an evergreen. It does have a mushroomy smell to it. The cap isnt slimy, and its closed right now, i guess i picked it when it was immature. So can you tell me as of right now an idea of if it is active or not?thanks for the help.

I think that might be Psathyrella velutina, which isn't active.

GRR! Ah my 4th failed attempt to find an active one so far. Has anyone had any luck near the Albany, New York area. Could you tell me whats the most common active species?Thanks guys.

The Pn. subbs are now out of season. Early spring and early fall.

Libnerty caps inthe north of NY inthe fall. in pastures in tall rank grass and sedge grasses but not directly in manure.
