Unusual fungus (pics)
    #1633043 - 06/14/03 11:54 AM (20 years, 9 months ago)

I have this little pile outside of straw and cow poo mixed together composting. Well, sort of composting, the pile isn't big enough. Anyways this area (NE) is soaked. I found some unusual fungus growing from the pile. They appear to be 6-8 inches tall. They have white stipes/stems. On top of the stem is a mass of black goo. I guess they spread spores by colapsing. I was there today and all had collapsed and left a black tar like goo which I assume is spores. In the pics only a few are still standing up straight, I hope they are visible enough.

Maybe you should take pics of the mushrooms them selves if you want them identified. If you don't want them ided, then thanks for posting the pics, their cool!

Those are no doubt a Coprinus species... (Inky Caps).

Possibly Coprinus plicatilis, although I can't really tell from your photos. Plus I don't even know if the mushrooms in my photos are plicatilis for sure.

Namaste.

As the others are already saying, you've probably got some Coprinus (Inky Caps) growing in there, and you're getting there when they've degenerated into ink-like slime.

Happy mushrooming!
