RAVE act 2
    #1633008 - 06/14/03 01:25 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

whether you know it or not, the rave act 2 passed a little while ago and surprisingly, it was used for what appears to be the first time to my knowlege not for a rave but a benefit for the Montana chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws ( http://www.norml.org ) and Students for Sensible Drug Policy ( http://www.ssdp.org ). The fact that this happened is surreal. This goes to show that they really are going to use this as an abuse. to read more about the events of what traspired, go to the following address
http://www.marijuana.com/article.php?sid=6713&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

If you would like to sign a petition ( which i STRONGLY advise....fight for our rights as americans) please go to the following Address.

http://actioncenter.drugpolicy.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=10509&ms=norml

P.S. mods......please make this sticky as this post is of the utmost importance

The petition ain't gonna do shit. The only way to fight em is with organized violent attacks.

I believe that people?s opinions DO matter. While you may be correct that Bush and the ruling junta don?t give a shit about what anyone has to say outside of their Christian extremist leaders, I believe that our Congress men and women still care about the concerns of their constituents, and will fight to prevent what happened in Montana from happening again if they get enough letters from people like us.

I?d strongly urge everyone on this board who believes the RAVE Act should not have been used to stop a political event to send a message to your Senators expressing your outrage. It?s a very easy thing to do. Just follow this link:

http://actioncenter.drugpolicy.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=10540

and provide your name and address; everything else is done for you. This link is from the same website as the link above, but it will send your letter to your senators rather than the acting DEA administrator (who was appointed by Ashcroft and probably sees eye to eye with the Bush junta).

As far as fighting this law with organized violent attacks, the Iraqi people are currently trying that method out. We?ll see how well it works (my guess is that it won?t).

actually peoples opinions do have an effect and evidence is as recent when the drug czar wanted to reallocate local police funds to combat marijuana initiatives in states that were going to legalize mmj. this had an overwhelming negative response from the public and it was knocked down.

The "Rave" act is a joke. Unless the purpose of a rally/event can be proven to be the use/sale of a drug, it could never hold up, so if the people organizing the party do not "condone open drug use" and state that it is meant as a political rally there is nothing the act can do.

The act is mostly bullshit that should not be in a bill and it has very little legal value, if any. A few simple precautions are all that is needed to avoid prosecution, and the NORML case is a clear violation of 1st amendmant rights. I think they were pussies for whimping out, though.

i agree withwhat you say. you need to do more research though. what you voiced ws the problem with the first rave act. that is why (in contradiction to what others in this thread are saying) it got voted down from negative public response. This act was rewritten off the first and "improved". it was also brought in very stealthy so no one noticed and it would pass......which it did. Every one seems to be missing the point. The new act can work. this festivals organizers hired lawyers togo over thier rights. in the end they concluded that going thrue with the festival would put them at liability due to this new law. Even performers can be held acountable. If all of this were not true, dont you think that lawyers would say go for it......they would just make money if something happened.....they are lawyers!

Sorry -- didn't know that. Any chance for a link to the new bill? (I couldn't find the actual bill on any of the links.)

Thanks for the info!

not sure of the link to the new one. As far as I know, this one might not even be under the rave act 2 or whatever. I think it might have been slipped under another name. I'll check it out.
