Trippin on the trails
    #1633002 - 06/14/03 01:22 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Greetings all

Doing my first hike with the fun guys in a couple days.

Going to a spot called "the grand canyon" of Maine... Supposed to me quite some amazing sights, lots of waterfalls, etc.  Looks like decent weather.  I'm excited

Anyone here do trip hikes much?  I'm thinking of fasting for that day... Good idea if you're doing excercising?  It's supposed to be easy-going, but still alot different that sitting around, which I'm used to.

How do the mushies react after a work-out?

If yr planning on spending the whole day hiking It'd probably be a pretty good idea to eat something that morning with a nice high caloric content but not too much volume... you could time it so most of it was out of yr stomach when you ate the mushrooms... it's probably too huge of deal though if you're not going to really be exerting yourself. Myself I'd probably eat a little bit in the morning.

I just came back from a 3 hour hike and I'm a little spent. Eat a nice breakfast and make sure to bring lots of water with you and a couple of snacks in a backpack. Hiking can really drain you fast, I also recommend bug spray or wear clothes that cover you up cause I was getting swarmed today.

Some exercise with the mushies won't do any harm at all.. You should have an awesome time.. tripping and hiking in nature are the two greatest combinations (IMHO)

Since you'll be hiking most of the day, (I presume?) I'd recommend eating a light breakfast beforehand, some carbs, protein, and fruit. Try to avoid meat. Bring shitloads of water, and bring a bunch of snacks in case you get hungry. (nothing too sugary..maybe some granola bars, nuts, dried fruit.. shit like that) Later on after the trip wears off you can have a nice big meal if you're hungry. But I've found that during trips I rarely ever have the desire to eat, so make sure you eat a little bit before you start, so you don't run out of nutrients on your expedition.

You could fast the day before if you like, but I wouldn't recommend doing it before going on a long hike. Make sure to drink water.

Hope you have a great time

Fasting? [Re: Shroomism]
    #1634976 - 06/15/03 01:45 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

I was wondering what the big attraction with fasting is? I've even heard Muslims say that on Ramadan they look forward to fasting for the whole day. How does not eating bring a good experience? Some spiritual thing I don't understand?

Fasting has many purposes, and will vary between the individual.

Some use it to train self-control and discipline. Some do it for religous reasons. Some do it to cleanse their system. For example, during the fast the body uses up stored cholesterol (fats) which are often deposited in the blood system, as well as in other fatty areas of the body. Thus, it helps to keep the body firm and minimizes the danger of heart attacks.

There are many other reasons why people fast, but those are the main ones I believe.
In the case of fungus, people usually fast because
A)It 'cleanses' the system as we said
B)The stomach isn't busy digesting other foods, so it can digest and absorb the mushrooms readily.
