thanx for the info blaze i have been checking and rechecking this post. Because i plan to go hunting this week sometime probably sooner than later. i have found many mushrooms that appear to be Pan. sub. but i did not know what it was til i was browsing through the forums and came across a few pics. I was like SHIT i did not know those were active, and here i have been looking forever for liberty caps that dont even grow in my area LMAO. And I will be sure to take some prints and posts some pics for those more experienced than I to look over before i even think about eating them, but nothing wrong with drying and putting in a paper bag labled with unknown til i find out. thanks again, have a great day.

The real question is what might look like them to you?

The most dangerous mushroom which has been mistaken (with lethal results) for active species is Galerina autumnalis. It would be a good idea for you to learn what they look like and avoid anything that looks close to it.

Spore prints will help separate the majority of the nasty things from what you want, so make sure you take spore prints.

Good luck and happy mushrooming!
