Ways of keeping casings cool to pin?
    #1631553 - 06/13/03 02:46 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

My casing layers are fully colonized and i'm not sure how to keep them cool so they can pin, my apartment has no A/C and it's summer already, so my apartment basically maintains an 80 degree farenheit temperature (great for incubation!). I'm really worried about overlay and was wondering if anybody as some techniques of their own for keeping their casings/fruiting chamber cool. Any ideas will be greatly apreciated.

those blue-ice packs that are big and flat. slip them under the terrarium like 2/3 times a day. go buy a couple of pairs and keep them in the freezer. temps will fluctuate however, depending on how often you change them. if you have perlite and water in the bottom this will help transfer the cool from those casings touching that part to those that aren't. make sense?

You could always cold shock it to induce pinning. Once you get it to start pinning you can basically keep your casing at room temprature without worring so much about keeping your place cool. Good Luck
