A Warning about Oblique Crunches/Situps
    #16314069 - 05/31/12 09:56 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

aka the side to side sit-ups. Last week I noticed a stinging pain in my abdomen that extended front to back. Almost as if someone stuck a crochet needle through me. I was pretty worried, thinking it was my kidneys or some other vital organ. I tried to ignore it hoping it would just go away but it got worse and I got even more worried. I had never experienced such a sharp and isolated pain in my torso before. So today I finally went to the doctor and what she said totally shocked me.

I had injured my 12th and possibly 11th ribs doing crunches. Apparently doing oblique crunches can be dangerous for us small waist women because your lowest ribs and the surrounding muscle can actually scrape against your hip bone. OW!  :omgz:

Never even thought about such a thing in all my years of exercising so I figured I'd share with you guys. Be careful!

Safety about sit-ups / crunchs is widely discussed and the overall motto is "don't abuse them" or simply "don't do them"

By the way, according to science (and I do always trust science) : http://www.t-nation.com/testosterone-magazine-627

Chin-ups are the best exercise for your abs. So forgot crunches / sit ups : you re likely to hurt yourself and they are not the best exercises for your abs.

Yes, it is. The shine stands for his job title, which is Shoe Shiner, the moon stands for the time he comes out to be a nigger, which is best suited for the negroid camouflage.
