I dont know why, but I inocculated some rye with my last Maz. Normally this should be a good thing , but I totally forgot abolut the summer holidays, which are gonna be in three weeks, and Ill be away for 6 weeks then. I dont wanna waste the maz , as it was my last maz print. How could I keep the mycelium for that period of time? I dont have a fridge or similiar to use. All I got is room temp. Should I maybe dunk it before going? Right now the jars are still colonizing.(Just started) I checked the searched and found a month at the max for storage. I think I read two months somewhere else before though. thankyou, Jazz

I?d keep it in dark , chances are it will begin to pin late(if at all) and grow invitro.

reckon I could tinfoil the jars to prevent invitro pinning? even if not invitro pinning isnt that bad, but do you think it will survivie the two months?

Without a fridge, it's gonna be a hard one. But try wrappig the jar(s) in tinfoil as you suggested yourself, and put it/them in the coolest spot you can find. This might slow down mycelium growth enough for you to enjoy your holidays and continue growing once you've come back.

Thanks. What about if I give them to a friend like anarchist proposed and he opens the fully colonized jars once in the middle of the holidays to put in a bit of water. Would this help the mycelium? The problem is , that I dont trust him to being able to follow basic instructions like "add water only in the dark" or "dont play around with the jars, but leave them unattended" "close the lids properly after watering"...

heres my opinion, but im no expert...
your jars just started, and in three weeks you'll be gone for 6 weeks. so from today, you have to leave your jars unattended for 9 weeks. what is the normal colonization rate for maz on rye, and how big are the jars?
normally, those jars would be finished in 3+ weeks i guess. if you drop the temps of your chamber, cover any air holes, and keep the jars dark, you can probably slow down the mycelium to where its not done for 4-5 weeks i guess.
at that point you'll have colonized jars sitting in dark sealed jars in a cool place for 3 weeks. when you get back, what would be the worst case scenerio? -dead mycelium? -a GIANT ball of mycelium that has filled and overflowed the jar...can you get overlay inside a jar? -contamination?
i really don't know, but this topic might be helpful for some people, so im just thinking out loud. in nature, i think mycelium can enter a kind of hybernation stage and wait inside the soil/substrate for the right conditions to fruit...you may be able to re-create this.
good luck
