Second flush, a necessity to soak?
    #16304407 - 05/30/12 01:41 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

So i'm onto my second flush. But i wonder is it really necessary to soak for another 12 hours? What does that actually do except addig moisture? Would mushrooms continue to grow even though the substrate wasn't soaked?

Because it seems as if though there is a lot of moisture in there, i had droplets on my mycelium.. And that ought to be a good indication of moisture levels?

I've never soaked. Mostly because I've found it increased contam rates unless you dry it out a bit before putting it back into fruiting. Mist heavily a few days that will help out a bit but I still find you get good flushes without soaking.

Also depends on the size of the actual substrate your using. If your doing pretty large casings then it can be hard to soak. Small stuff is much easier.

I've never soaked my monotubs either.  Mycjunky says he found it to increase contams, which is likely true, but I don't do it because it seems like such a huge pain in the ass.  Actually, it IS a huge pain in the ass, because I tried it with one of my first tubs and said to hell with this shit.

I simply mist the shit out of my tubs between flushes.  After I harvest a flush, I spray just like I would if I was misting my fruits in mid-flush, but with more water.  So much water that there is standing water on top of the substrate.  It will soak back in and all will be well.  I've gotten 3+ great flushes off of many tubs doing this.

Mushrooms are %90 water. While bulk subs typically hold a significant amount of water, that water is directly transferred to the fruit body. The harvest you receive is %90 of the moisture that is now missing from your sub.

i soak my monos for 6 hours between flushes with awesome results ... quit being a contamination wuss and hook your grow up ...

beaded moisture on the surface myc is just that ... if you misted/watered heavily during the 1st flush then it may not be needed ... 12 hours is a stupid ridiculous time to soak a fruited mono ... give it 4 to 6 and it will produce nicely ...
