Koh Samoi and Pink buffalo cakes in monotub type FC

Have dunked and rolled all cakes and all are fully consolidated with hundreds of pins already formed. Some of the cakes are currently in their 2nd flush and have 3 1/2 inch mushrooms growing off the sides. Every day I sit on the floor and slide the tub around to look for new pin growth. Then I mist & fan them and walk away.

My partner however, thinks that me turning the tub around is jostling them too much even though I am obviously very careful. He makes it seem like I'm causing the cakes to smash into each other! I've been doing this for weeks and weeks now and there hasn't been a problem.

Can someone please explain to me if the cakes and mushrooms are so fragile that I should stop my daily routine?

A fully colonized cake is pretty tough. Rough handling with your hands is what could cause bruising and damage to the cake but simply moving your FC around isn't going to hurt them a single bit.

I picked up my cakes all the time but very gently and had 0 issues.

thanks for replying so fast!

This is our first time trying to grow mushrooms, so he is very paranoid lol. We did a good job with the cakes. You really can't beat the dunk & roll method. Last week we harvested a 26 gram koh samoi. I'll post some pics. This is such a great and rewarding hobby!! Both strains are t3 also. The trip was AHHHMAZING and I only took 2.8grams dry.

This is by far my favorite hobby so far and I doubt anything's going to replace it. Not sure if you enjoy the taste of gourmet mushrooms but you can use this Pf Tek to grow various kinds of edible mushrooms as well. :thumbup:

I dont know,I think some of those little pins that form on the bottom of cakes are pretty easy to knock off.
Just be careful.

harvested last week. one was 26 grams the other i think 14

the first flush we did without dunking and rolling and it was barely 13 grams. This time it's just amazing how many are growing!

the downside to the giant clusters that grow is the fact that they are growing on top of each other. sometimes when we harvest one mushroom some pins that are growing on its base will come off with it. there's no way around it really. we haven't had anything just fall off. i'm really, really careful! The amount of shaking that happens when i spin the container is very minimal. I imagine if they were growing outside the wind would be much stronger.

VV- i actually hate mushrooms lol!! I tolerate eating these by putting them into a melted hersheys chocolate bar :wink: But i did think about getting some shitake spores. I think it would be a great gift to buy some cakes and get them started with shitake pins and gift them out to my friends and family. Many people in my family have the green thumb and love mushies!
