Glowsticks as light source?
    #1629104 - 06/12/03 04:42 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

Could one use blue/green glowsticks as the light source in a fruiting chamber? I am sure it would not be super efficient, but would it work at all? Any first-hand experiences?

lol-I really don't think it would work, but as far as spectras comparable to normal sun spectras-I'm no expert. But I'm gonna try it I think-lol. Are you in that desperate of a situation?

Light is light, but it would only work for 12-24 hours. I suppose of you wanted something half automated, it would work, break it, it goes for 12 hours, come back 24 hours after breaking it, and put in a new one...

That doesn't seem worth the effort or cost... Just get an 18" florescent for around $10 at hardware store... Lowes has a good one. Home Depot has a 12 incher for less.

You probably could if you absolutely had to. Mushrooms don't need light to grow. A little bit of light will initiate pinning and give them a direction. I have seen mushrooms grow with no light at all after pinning has been initiated. They aren't pretty but they still grow.  But I think that that low of a light source is not the optimal conditions if you want the best from your grow.

Not me, my friend's friend's friend's neighbor is, however. His grow Op is located at his friend's mom's place. She is a cokehead pill-popper and HATES when he asks her to do something (like switch off a light every 12hours or unplug an aquarium heater before she goes to bed) and will go up and down on this emotional roller coaster if he asks her without giving her pills in return. Simply taping 3-4 glowsticks to the top would save them both a lot of trouble and useless complaining.

He only wants it to run for maybe 24 hours in order to hopefully initiate pinning on a sluggish creeper casing.

Thanks to a friend who works in the military, he has boxes and boxes full of those fucking glowsticks; this is a reason he wanted to try it; he has so many and it would be so easy if it works.

Wow I was thinking of the same thing last year. It would work but it would, as pointed out by others, be very expensive. But you said your friend has access to hundreds of military grade glow sticks. So yes this is a valid idea, but if you don't have glow sticks one could always use a flash light.
