Official Dead tour post
    #1627113 - 06/11/03 06:28 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

It's clear to me by the number of posts lately that the up-coming Dead tour has brought many past and future members of the community out of the woodwork!

Well here's a place to post what shows you will be attending, set lists, and general information about the tour, venues, or on the Band!

Much love my brothers and sisters!

Shine on

Summerfest
Red Rocks - undecided
Joliet IL
Somerset WI
Indianapolis
Columbus OH

Red Rocks will be a challenge, as for now I will be travelling alone. I am going to give it at least a try though. I would like to open an invitation to anyone who is around Michigan who does not have the vehicular means to go to any of these above mentioned shows to just send me a PM and perhaps the bus-tang will pick you up.

i wasn't at bonnaroo ripple, but i'm sure mickey did sing fire. he sure belted out an aiko ancore last night. the show was a lot of fun. they seem very well rehearsed. and i really enjoyed joan's presence and voice on stage. her musta been the roses was real nice. good sing-along. i'll paste sunshine's mini review here. she sums things up nicely:

The show was beautiful. Opening with "Jack Straw" jamming and the "Wheel" made me think this show is going in the right direction. While in line for beverages I couldn't tell what was playing, but I mentioned it sounded like Pink Floyd. I believe it was "Mason's Children." "Must have been the roses" was welcomed by all. I was thinking about how I would bypass that song on my CD when Jerry sang it, due to the speed he sang it at, but Joan gave it an interesting flare. "Shakedown" was played at very slow speed, but you have to sing to it no matter what and "Uncle Johns band" was a great sing along as well. Now "Reuben and Cherise", I personally thought it was done beautifully, but on my way out of the venue a young girl said she had to leave when she heard Joan singing it. Maybe I have more of an open mind and ear, but I do know a lot of girls have always felt uncomfortable with Donna as well. "Help/ Slip/ Franklins"/ what can you say. It was time to get down. Then the ancore with Mickey singing "Aiko". .............Beautiful........

june 17, 2003 setlist:

1st set: jack straw > the wheel > crazy fingers (joan) > loose lucy with steve winwood > promised land > built to last > mason's children

2nd set: drums/space > mountains of the moon > weather report suite prelude and part 1 > let it grow > no more do i > musta been the roses (joan) >shakedown street > reuben and cherise (joan) > uncle johns band > help >slipnot>franklins  e: aiko

Fuck I knew someone would try to talk me out of this. I got offered a ticket to 10,000 lakes and I am thinking of taking it. Actually I shouldn't because after I made all the plans to do this I was told I would have to buy my own ticket. Shit maybe I should just sell one for each night?

Let me explain better.  You have me thinking correctly again   A friend believed he was getting me a free ticket to a festival he is working but he mis-read something or there was a misprint and he won't be getting a free buddy pass.  I was stuck on going because free festival and I could get my money back for my tickets because I am in financial trouble.  But now I see I should say FUCK that fest and go to Colorado instead! I can only afford one right now so screw it I'm giong to delete my posts!!! thanks for the heads up!!!   :sun:

Hey,
I've trolled this site for a while, but never posted, so here it goes.
I'll be @ Red Rocks, camping @ Chief Hosa. I just transplanted to Denver from Houston, so me and my girl will be camping alone. Well, of course we wont be alone (you never are when at a Dead show) but we won't have any old friends with us.
So, I'll be looking for people to kick it with. While I know I'll make about a million friends there (always have before) It would be cool to maybe meet up with some of you.
I toured 94 & 95 mid west tours. While there was a lot of unnecessary drama, it was a great time spent with great people. Most of you seem like pretty cool individuals..... So, if anyone will be there, drop me a line.

Matt

Dam man. I'm thinkin about not going to NJ next week and just save the NE for the second leg. 3 shows in New York and two of them with acoustic sets. Thats a rare treat. The last acoustic Dead show I saw was Berkely in 94 I think. It was billed as Phil and friends ,but when we got there out came Jerry , and the rest of the band. Did an acoustic Dupree's. I was in heaven.

Is Jones beach fairly close to you Ripple?

See you all at Red Rocks, first night. All the Red Rockers should meet up maybe?

yeah, last night was absoultly amazing, one of my friends tried shrooms for the first time and when toyuch of grey started he freaked out and was like "I gotta get down there, I gotta get down there." We lost him for like a half hour. I matched up with lots of random people and I met this dude in a food line that was like twice my age, who went to bonaroo, real cool guy. Great night. Definitly see them if you haven't already.

What was the lot scene like? Was there many bust's?
Was everybody able to get their party favors without hasle from the cops? Was the vending scene cool?

The reason I ask is the NE in the past has been a dangerous place for
people on tour. More people used to get busted up there than anywere else on tour. Hopefully this is all in the past.

Twice your age ....at The Other Ones show at the Garden last year I sat next to some 14 year olds.

My oldest kid is 15 so I venture to guess that I'm also twice your age

Touch of Grey

I saw a teenager the other day with a Grateful Dead shirt on while me and my kids were in Wal-Mart. I thought to myself that before he was born I was probably touring. See'ing younger people getting into the music is exciting. Then it acurred to me that we are still growing in numbers. I couldn't help but smile with the realization that the music will continue to touch the lives of people forever.

You got me beat old timer.
At least you got into the Dead when they were in there prime.
The early and middle 70's were by far the best years.

6/24/03 PNC Center:

Set list to Follow,

Overall a great show from a musical standpoint, Jimmy Herring has really found his place and sounds just beautiful, and the band is as tight as ever! Weir's vocals on Black Throated Wind, brought tears to my eyes and he was brilliant singing Cumberland Blues, and Brokedown Palace! The Eleven was a real treat and Herring played as though he has spent a lot of time listening to the way Jerry played it!

25,000 people sang Not Fade Away, gives me goose bumps!

Joan's vocals are excellent!

Now for the criticisms, and I'm allowed. The choice of songs was not what I would have scripted, Two Bobby songs in the first set that I didn't know! "PLAY Promised Land for Christ sake!" A few songs thrown in to highlight Joan Like Roses and Passenger. But that's just me, I would have chosen to see Chinacat Sunflower and Sugar Mag. instead of having them cover John Lee Hooker and the Beatles. but the songs were all very well done!

Overall a real good show!

Shine On!

Yeah, all the kids were making fun of me at Bonnaroo but I didn't care! It was all good fun. I had some stories to make them laugh and could tell them stuff about the past and such. They turned me on to some great pot. (Hell, can't even call that smoke pot 'cause it was sooooo fucking good! I really didn't realize how much the pot has improved since I smoked over a decade ago.) I turned a bunch of people on to a mix of Eq's, B+++'s, and Golden Teachers. What a great time, it really reminded me of the ole' days only better in many ways.  :mushroom2:
