    #1625955 - 06/11/03 08:41 AM (20 years, 9 months ago)

14 days ago i inoculated 12 1/2 pint jars with an eq syringe- the colonization seems like it almost just started then stopped- i knew i had used to much water and i was worried about bacterial mold- this morning (14th day) i got rid of 2 jars that smelled bad- one of them had a black mold on it to- the other jars however still havent colonized much at all yet- and a few havent at all- but they dont smell bad so what should i do....

leave them loose just make sure there are no mold spores in your incubator, a thourogh cleaning might be in order. Also make sure your holes arent taped, maybe they arent getting enough gas exchange.

Woudnt aluminum foil block the air exchange that you said he needed?

If there is too much water, they may be headed to failure. The mycelium may not colonize it before a bacterium gets to it. Try a coffee filter instead of aluminum foil. If its too wet, then expect it to colonize slowly. Watch that smell and chuck anything you have doubts about. No amount of air exchange is going to help a saturated jar, unless you can actually dry it out.
