Whole lotta colonized WBS
    #1624699 - 06/10/03 10:29 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

So this friend of mine has 12 pint jars of Maz on WBS almost fully colonized. He knows about spawning to compost and poop but was wondering if it is worthwhile to just case it since there is so much. Any opinions out there? Is it worth it to just case or far better to spawn to compost?

If it's your first time doing a case run then just case the colonized WBS. from there go try whatever you want. My friend has done both compost and straw but he only does so to do things a little different or for non-Cub species. He says that with WBS only costing $7-$10 for 40-50 pounds and 12 spawned grain quart jars making more then he and his friends could ever use in a 6 month period he doesn't bother going beyond grains.

12 pints is 6 quarts is 5.6 liters of medium.. that would fill 2 of these (with a 1/2" casing)

or 4 of something like an 8x8x2 aluminum pan. This should give you something that looks like this my friend says.

A friend has spawned to poo and compost with good results -50/50 casing, but was wondering if straight casing WBS gives the same results. He says thanks for the reply!
He did his first grain to grain and did lots of extra jars for practice. Amazing how quickly they colonize!
Peace

Can you simply crumble a WBS jar and case simply with Verm/Coir+ casing the same way you would a PF Cake? I mean this is probably really silly because your suppose to be able to do everything with WBS, but I just want to be 100%.

My friend usually just shakes a quart jar after signs of healthy growth, then waits until all the jars are colonized. Shakes to break up the WBS and dumps it out into trays or flat cake rows on foil. Case, cover, wait..

My friend has been real interested in flat cakes after seeing some shots coming out lately.. Though he will probably just stick with the 2 sterlite 60 liters and 2 dishwasher trays.
