birthing the cakes

one time when the cakes were birthed, the dry vermiculite seal had become mostly attached to the mycelium network. is it reccommended to cut this portion off, as it has no real value to the network...? also, there is a lot of talk about cold shocking, but none of it seems consistent. would wrapping the jars in aluminum foil (to keep back contams) and placing them in the fridge for a certain period of time be ok, or would just straight birthing them work better? thanks for your time and advice!!

Don't remove the verm or only remove some of it and go ahead and do a double end casing. Thats what I did.  You can find out more about double end casing by searching the tek.
