I'm gaining muscle mass, right?

So i've dropped from 192 to 120. I have about 10lbs of fat I want to burn off and turn into muscle. Yesterday I ate about 1400 calories, ran 1 mile, rowed 2000 meters, and used some free weights.
I scale myself this morning and I weigh MORE than I did two days ago. I have consumed less than 3000 calories in those two days too. That's for sure. Am I starting to put on muscle mass? It's really hard to tell what the fuck is going on with this last 10lbs of fat. I am so lost with what's going on lol.

I doubt youve increased your muscle mass mate. If your goal is fat loss you need to be eating a calorie deficit. In order to gain muscle mass you need to be eating a calorie surplus. Gaining muscle and reducing fat at the same time is not possible IMO. Continuing with resistance training should help prevent you from losing muscle though so continue with that. Once youve reached your goal with fat loss then you can begin to add muscle with resistance training and a slight calorie surplus. This should minimize fat gains (lean bulk). I would say a reasonable amount of weight to gain would be around a quarter of a pound a month while lean bulking.
How tall are you though mate? 120 seems very light to me...

5'6 but I have no muscle mass so it looks like a I weigh 135. I'm trying to work out and turn this fat into muscle. I can notice a difference on my arms from two weeks of lifting 3x a week. I'm hoping low calorie + exercise helps it come off faster.
I went up from 119.8 to 120.6 and that was while working out and eating 1000 calories.
I don't think it could be anything other than muscle mass considering it's about 3x by weight than fat.

Yeah I can't wait to be like that. I know it'll be another 2-3 months before I can say that, but I made it through the hardest part I feel.

Water weight maybe.
It is possible for our bodies to fluctuate quite considerably depending on a variety of factors.
However, if you are a clean slate (ie. no muscle) you should gain quickly as long as your eating right and putting in the work.
Heavy compound lifts and body weight exercises like chin ups and pushups will put on the size/definition quickly.
It sounds like your obsessing over losing the weight. Sounds to me like you'd be better off stick with a good routine, lifting hard and focusing on adding that muscle and filling out rather than shedding the final 10lbs... It could literally take forever, and you will be inhibiting your muscle gains in the mean time.
The other poster knows what he's talking about..

getting into the routine is the hardest part. lots of people start working out but don't know what to do, so they come in a few times, fuck around a bit, quit for several months then come back next year to try it again. as long as you've got a plan in place for each session three times a week and get your ass in there each time, you've got it made.

Ahh intresting. I didn't think of water weight. I'm just going to keep working out/eating right and look for mirror results now instead of looking to the scale. It's too temperamental at this point.

Ya I feel like the trick is to not give up. Don't have a bad day and eat 10 piece of chocolate and sit around. If I go out with my friends on a friday night and have more food than I wanted to eat then I make up for it that night or the next day by working out more. That also encourages me to not slip up again and I go an extra couple weeks before it happens. Now I get a day like that once a month at most.
I'm eating a lot of fruit and vegetables for lunch, and then dinner I'm eating fish and lean chicken. It feels a lot healthier than red meat/carbs. I know there are all sorts of ways to build muscle/lose weight but this is the easiest for me.
Also, I am not trying to get ripped. I am simply trying to get toned like a cross country runner. I don't want to bulk up.

2-3 months may be ambitious unless you are ridiculously commited.
I am fairly active and quite fit, but not certainly not ripped. I've been like this for almost 3 years, and my body is developing everyday but it's a very subtle process...
In my situation 2-3 years is more realistic as far as building shoulders/chest/neck and filling out the torso and thighs.
In 2-3 months you WILL progress, but it won't be anything amazing like you see in the misleading before/after in 3 months pics on the internet ads!

I think I can get toned though. I've never been fit in my entire life so I feel like 2-3 months of the work out I'm doing with the diet will make me feel that way. Even if I haven't bulked up it'll still be the best i've ever looked.

yeah i wasn't meaning bulking like crazy, just noticing how tight and slim i had become. and knowing how graceful and powerful my natural movements now were. it's an incredible feeling.

Forsure, i got that. Just wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page.
One comment though - i am starting to fill out now, and also look better than i ever have. Although i am not huge by any means, it's really weird bulking up abit. When i look at myself in the mirror I feel unnatural sometimes...
Really i am quite slim, just thicker in the neck/shoulders/chest. I guess i'll get used to it.

Yeah. I'm not used to seeing the same person in the mirror. I have about 3lbs of fat on my stomach and 2lbs of fat on each on thigh I working on burning into some muscle tone.
It's so hard! Today though I had a banana, two see's peanut/chocolate bites, and a chicken skewer that was very lean. Then I did about 40 minutes of vigorous pushups and sit ups split into 5 minute work outs with a break. I drink water only, and I know this isn't going to put on crazy muscle mass but that's not what I'm going for.
Obviously I could do without the chocolate, but considering how little I ate and how much I worked out (12-15 minutes more than usual) I think it was a successful day.
25 minutes of cardio for me means running 1.5 miles and rowing 1500-2000 meters, then I walk a mile. It's amazing how much exercise gets done in a half hour at most. That plus a healthy diet and the results I can see every 3-4 days.

You need to eat more.
The more you exercise the more you need to eat. You should be eating at least 2000 daily.
If you eat less, your body will conserve fat and use energy from elsewhere. It's better to eat more, gain weight and muscle, and then to lean out, than to just try and lean out... having muscle makes getting rid of fat much more simple.
Hope this advice helps.

uh if u aren't lifting weights then u are surely not putting on muscle mass and it takes a hell of a lot longer to put on muscle mass than it does to gain or lose fat.

Eat about 6 eggs a day, and whey protein shakes. That should help a lot.

Nah I definitely put on some muscle mass. I did literally NOTHING for the four-five years I was on opiates. Now I am noticing muscle mass coming on. I don't expect to get much, but my muscles are way more defined now that i've been working out.

I repeat myself: compound lifts.
Honestly, squats, deadlifts, overhead presses and barbell rows along with pushups and chin ups will fill you out well.

Yeah I do lifting/push ups/sit ups/dead lifts etc. 3 times a week. Then I do cardio 3 days a week with a little calastetics thrown in. Not much, like 60-80 pushups and 100 sits ups with a 1.5 mile run. I'm trying to build up my endurance/muscle mass. I have a good 10-12lbs of fat that I can turn into muscle if I keep at it. I've already noticed I am starting to gain muscle and lose fat. My weights going up too. I'd like to be 132-135 and fit.
I love being sore. I know I did something right.

As others have said, it is most likely water weight. There is no way you aren't running a caloric deficit with those numbers. I notice my weight always spikes when I start lifting again after a break due to increased water retention.
