Panellus Stipticus edible???
    #1624115 - 06/10/03 06:12 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

I saw this on this web site...
http://www.micronmagick.com/index.cfm?fuseAction=catalog.Catalog&categoryID=11

...under live cultures

They claim they "Glow-in-the-dark"????

They also claim that they are not edible and are sold as a novelty only.

My question is are there "glowing" mushrooms?
I ask here because IMHO between MJshroomer and GGreatone234 they will know and present the info truthfully..

Thanx, Amanita Dreamer

Panellus stipticus glows in the dark and is quite inedible. There are actually quite a few species of mushroom which glow in the dark. The other species that's fairly common is Honey Mushrooms (Armillaria mellea and relatives). In those the mushrooms themselves don't glow, the mycelium does.

Happy mushrooming!

There is a neon green Mycena inone of the old TIme-Life nature Series (26 vols.)

It was from Borneo, a full page image too. No longer have the set and while the new Time-Life recents series books are common the older ones which were common are now not.

Not edible, not hallucinogenic, but very neat. I've actually just ordered a syringe of spores and am gonna give cultivating them a shot. If everything goes well, I think I'm gonna plant 'em in every rotten log I can find in my area -- my backyard could be full of glowing shrooms in a few months. %)

that would be neat, good luck. if your really up to it, follow the oyster mushroom inocculation process and your sure to get them fruiting (probably).
