That statement, paradoxically, also express's proof of your tendency to be a twat.

Rogan is just a common sense kind of guy.  His audience seems to be kind of analogous to the Ron Paul crowd.

Terence McKenna is a lot more liberal, and less "libertarian college stoner" style than Joe Rogan.  I feel like Terence McKenna might be a bit deeper thinker than Joe Rogan but a lot of his perception and thoughts get lost when he tries to put them into words.

IYO

McKenna fails to clearly convey his thoughts at time.  A lot of them are also very abstract and confusing.  He may understand his own mind very well and be able to decipher what he's saying, but I feel he doesn't do too great of a job conveying these thoughts to the audience all of the time.  Also he's a lot more confined to his own mind and inner universe and I feel that this may cause him to be somewhat disconnected from reality and unable to fully perceive it and analyze it at times.

Terrence McKenna came out as a weirdo.

Joe Rogan comes out as some funny down to earth guy who sometimes behaves like a douche.

Joe rogan has waay more potential to the advance of the psychedelic movement than Mckenna ever did.

This is true, but only because Rogan is more mainstream.

Some might call being more mainstream "conformity."  While some might say Rogan does more for the psychedelic "movement" by being more moderate, others might praise McKenna more for sticking to his roots, so to speak.

i'm no huge fan, but at least he's making the effort to get the word out to a lot of people that normally probably wouldn't think twice.

Hai guise!  This wasn't meant to be a thread comparing McKenna to Rogan.. nor was it meant to be a Rogan flaming post (though I can see how my original post made it curve in that direction—and I apologize).

I respect Rogan's willingness to talk about his beliefs and make them available for all to hear.  Some of the stuff he says I do find to be intriguing.. and much of what he says is flat out hilarious.  His personality is very entertaining and can easily keep you watching almost regardless of what his message is.  The guests he brings on his show are fair players who have shared some legitimate information.  He also is very open about his views.

However, I've seen his podcast shows and it's just him rambling about random shit while he's high, reading facts copied and pasted from the internet, reciting stories he heard as facts, or reading from a script that he didn't write.  I've even heard him say some things that were just flat out false (and had been proven as such).  I find that he often is regurgitating other people's views and experiences rather than expressing his own.  I find this to be bothersome.  He seems very uneducated and you can tell, more often than not, he isn't too bright in the field of psychedelics.  He'll also rage and get angry at people for their opinions and views.  I've noticed that when someone asks him a question he will often babble around, talk in circles, and not truly answer them.

The way he endorses psychedelics is unhealthy, in my opinion.  It reminds me of how a kid of fourteen, who has an older brother that is into psychedelics, brags to his friends about drugs.  He sort of has that "yea dawg dat shit is bomb man you just eat it up and then your so high" mentality.  As many here have put, he's emitting that naïve stoner vibe.  Many people in the world possess this same vibe, I meet them daily, and that's totally acceptable; though, I don't feel it's good for the community to have someone say "ya you just sprinkle this on your bowl and smoke it" or "you just take a handful of this shit and eat it".

Rogan quotes and repeats McKenna's work (sometimes almost making it seem as if it was his own) in his talks.

I also very much respect Terence McKenna.  I do feel he is often misunderstood as many take what he says too literally (instead of digging deeper into the metaphors like he suggests).  I'll admit some of it is on the level of the abstract works of famous dead writers and linguists and we may never know what he truly meant.

I feel that Terence McKenna was a positive spokesperson for the psychedelic community as he often described the experiences, including every emotion, feeling, and thought.  He warned listeners of the dangers, how to consume such-and-such drugs properly, and expelled a lot of information that was often unbiased and left it up to the listeners to decide what to do with said information.  His slinky frame contained a lot knowledge, he was well educated/spoken, and was an all around loving guy.  I've never seen McKenna argue with someone about their opinions; instead, he would contribute to them.  If someone asked him a question, he would answer completely honestly, with his opinion, regardless of the outcome.

McKenna also thought for himself.  If he started talking about an idea that wasn't his he would make that known and reference the originator.  His thoughts were unique and the ones that can be deciphered make a lot of sense.

I've tried not to compare McKenna and Rogan on the same level in anything other than spokespersons for the psychedelic experience (as there's no point in comparing a philosopher/researcher/lecturer with a television host/comedian/podcast owner/actor).  I've also kept this as short as possible.

..don't even get me started on Jim Carrey.
