Qs regarding growing Salvia
    #1623451 - 06/10/03 12:33 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

how many of you give your babys plant food like miracle grow (high Nitrogen)
in the literature I recieved from BBB it said that they appreciate it during the summer & if you do how much & how often do you use it?

also please help me clear this up for me, is Salvia Divinorum (Diviner's Sage) a sage or a mint?

salvia means sage doesnt it?
however in the leaflet from BBB it says that SD is a member of the mint family

I use Miracle Grow once every 2 weeks.

Salvia divinorum is a type of sage. Generally, sages belong to the genus Salvia. There are about 900 different Salvia species, including many ornamental garden sages and Salvia officinalis, the common cooking sage. Salvia is a genus in the mint family (Lamiaceae) Salvia divinorum is literally the sage (Salvia) of the diviners (divinorum). The plant has a characteristic weak 'mousy-but-minty' aroma.

cheers motaman!

I recently aquired three cuttings with root balls & I potted them about a week ago,
do you think it would be wise to give them some miracle grow now or should I let them establish themselves a bit more first,

incidentally how much & how often do you water them, Ive been misting them fairly frequently & they are currently in makeshift humidity tents,
here is a photo

You should wait until they are established before fertilizing. I have been watering about every three days or when the first 1 inch of soil feels dry. I mist them every day. But mine are outside in 5 gallon buckets and in the Florida heat. I'll try to get a pic of them for you.  :grin:

edit = spelling

Here are some pictures of 2 of the larger ones that I have. These two plants were recently thinned. I think these plants are close to outgrowing these containers. I will probably change or add other fertilizers soon.

Ummm, I have looked at alot of salvia plants but I have found a difference between pics and mine. Mine has a very bumpy edge on the corners of the stock, kinda like ~~~~~~. Does this mean its not salvia? :frown: I'm sorry I cant currently get a pic....

Stock? Do you mean that the edges/corners of the square stem have ripples running right at the edge? If so that's fine, and it most likely still is a S. divinorum.

For a plant to be in the mint family the first thing you'll want to check out is it's stalk/stem. If it's square, that's a good start.
