I've seen most of the successful experiences have been with tea or quid. So might I suggest everyone testing this stuff out to edge towards the oral or sublingual methods. I think in this case a Tea is the best option. No chewing yucky leaves and you can lower the amount of material ingested, since it would seem the actives can be dissolved into water.

Are there any new developments with this? I'm quite interested.

I took a few large leaves from my coleus blumei, dried them, and smoked them out of my bong earlier today... No effect whatsoever.

I'll let you all know when I get enough leaves (around 200) to try the quid or the tea method.

I picked up a mixture of coleus plants in a tray from a yard/car boot sale. I picked a few leaves of the all red variety. I put them in a bong and took them in one hit, held it in.
On exhaling, my eyes were drawn to the corner of the room and the wall of the room didnt look straight. Very odd, i don't know if this was a placebo effect, but once they get bigger i will experiment more and report back

Well about a week or so, Friday, I did the quid thing for about 5-10 mins with 10 med leaves with the McKenna looking strain. It had a stinging effect on my tongue. No psychotropic effect whatsoever, maybe some hypotension, no doubt could have been placebo. I'm growing 3 plants from seed which will help to rule out the ornamental cultivar theory. If we keep this thread going we might find for sure if it is active or not!

Coleus is worth more as an ornamental plant, than anything else. The amount of alkaloids isnt worth much. Growing them would more conciousness expanding than anything. They are difficult to grow to maturity well, but some are magnificent.

They sure are beautiful. If think if we take anything from this thread, it's that everyone should have a Coleus plant to love

Mine are getting fairly big; going to be trying the NZ cultivar within the next month. I'll report back as soon as I have more info on the effectiveness of a tea/quid.

Yeah,I think it's safe to say that coleus is about as active as Hemp.Let's just all grow it for it's Beauty, because it damn well isn't psychoactive.

Going to give smoking Coleus Blumei one last chance... doubling my dosage from last time. I'll let you all know how this final test goes. :lsd:

EDIT: Nothing worth posting... Smoked 6 bowls from my pipe instead of bong (thought active chemical may be water-soluble). Smoking seems to yield no effects. The taste wasn't all that bad though and the smoke was fairly smooth.

Wow that sucks! Eating 50 leaves without effect.. Maybe there's an extraction technique somewhere online. I don't see mee eating 50 of those leaves, without being sure of any effect!

Some book I read said that coleus has to be 5 years old to be active at 50 leaves. 50 leaves orally is an active dose for S. divinorum so there might have been a confusion about something or other(the plants were chewed together sometimes)

I remember reading something on erowid about Coleus, that it can't be smoked and only works when the plant material is fresh and hasn't been dried.. Also I think it was mentioned in this topic already. But I never tried it so I'm not saying Coleus will give any effects orally.

I think that the reason Coleus seems to be nearly inactive is that people are going about it the wrong way. I've heard that its actives are similar to those of Salvia's. Well, if salvia's got a reverse tolerance, because a lot of people don't feel anything their first few times, or if they do, it sounds a lot like coleus experiences. When I smoke coleus, it reminds me of when i tried acid. Maybe it has something to do with me vaping it almost twice a week. If i don't want to drink the nasty tea, i do an acid water extraction with lemon juice; i tried to extract with isopropyl alchohol just once. That was a real pain.

The tea isn't bad though, if you pinch off the flowers and use them.
